Can-down explained it well. I did this because I really didn't like having to tilt the gun and reach over the top to work a right side cocking handle with my left hand, it seemed unnecessarily clumsy and awkward. I find this setup easier, faster and it feels much more natural. Very soon I'm going to paint the entire rifle in black Armacoat.
As to how I did it, first I bought a new bolt carrier from Gun Broker in case I screwed mine up beyond repair. Then I drilled a small fairly shallow hole in the carrier where I wanted the new handle. Then I narrowed the portion of the handle that would be in the hole to the hole's diameter. After a little fitting and cutting to get the length and angle I wanted, I fired up the MIG welder and tacked it. Happy with the handles placement I welded the whole thing up. I cleaned it up and shaped it with a die grinder and an assortment of carbide cutters and sanding drums. After the new handle was in place, I cut the old one off with a hacksaw and grinded the area smooth.
