My AR-15, Complete

Building up a project like this is a lot of fun, and the very best components have been selected. But just a thought - Pave, you are a superior marksman. Just how much better could you shoot with this rig, than with a straight SP1? Might be an intresting experiment for you to try. Are you going to set up your own TR, or do you plan on specializing in service type shooting?

SparHawk,

Smgcon and I "Manufactured" our own low profile gas block from an A2 sight. Dremelled off the sight, then finished it off, removing all the sharp corners. Right now, I think that the sight block is still "In the white", and hasn't been reparkerized yet.

It took a while longer than selecting "Order" with a mouse, but I did end up saving about $80.

Tiriag,

I probably can shoot no better with all the Gucci kit on the rifle, and it's gone from a High speed low drag to a Medium Speed Uber Drag. She's a bit heavy, but that just means I need to hit the gym. If the C9 gunners can do it, surely I can too

I've got a rifle here that I'll tell you a bit about later, currently in F-Class configuration. Havne't gotten around to getting target sights for it yet.

Good going Pave ! Very nice AR.

I went the same route as you; building my own "Carbine-of-my-dreams" and I know it can be difficult and more expensive than initially planned.

Don't let other gun snobs drag you down with comments like "the colors don't match" and "why didn't you get an HK416 for 100 $ less"

The important is to get shooting and have fun

nice gun Pave. I like the OD green in there, im all for AR's with a little color. How much was the total on the build? SOrry im too lazy to add up all your caponents.

I got my calculator and did the math.

Let's just say he busted the $4k mark.

Doesn't matter though. All custom jobs cost more than a off the shelf AR. And the fun you get to get to completion.... priceless.

Nice looking gun.

Good job !

I live in Kelowna, British Columbia.

I'm a member of the Kelowna Fish and Game club, so you'll see me shooting there with my dad, Smgcon, as often as we can.

If anyone's close by, PM me or Smgcon, and we can organize a range trip if you'd like to see the AR up close and personal

And yeah, I love the build. With the M14, the project took a bit too much time and there wasn't that many options, so I sold it. This AR is a completely different story. :D

I'm with PaveHammer on this one.

Keeping the grip close allows you to rest your elbows on your body to keep a tight profile and give more stability.

I read this in an issue of SWAT.
if you think about it, it makes sense.

t6chan,

Thats more of a MP-5 stance - the further out you hand is the more control you have (leverage).

Run the stock in closer and if necessary push your optic out further.
As with any info you should look at the source - The only writer for SWAT I'd listen to on the M4 etc is Pat Rogers.
Watching what some of the Tier 1 US guys are doing these days is running it out as far as you can...

If your moving you cannot keep your elbows that tight for if you do any motion will be automatically transfered into your weapon, makign it that harder to keep on target.
