My Archangel M14/M1A stock fitting

So first of all i wanted to tell everyone that im not responsible if you destroy your stock. Next if you are a visual like me you will like to see the pictures.

First this is my usgi stock that will be going to get repaired later becaused its cracked in many places.

Now the mod secure the stock in a vise or anything you want be carefull to not scratch it.

Then i protected the surrounding area with tape.

Then took some measurments as stated in other threads about this its 6" 1/4 long . I decided to file down only the remaning bit thatis about 1" 1/2 long. I had marks before measuing when i trial fited it before.

I measured about 1/8 deep that needs to be taken out. It can be less on your M14.

Then the tools i used 2 diffrent files and a razor blade to cut of excess and 180 and 320 grit sand paper.

Then start filling. BTW I messed it up a little as i started to make the "angle" in the wrong direction. In the end it didnt change anything, but i had to remake the slop here are the diffrent steps while i was cutting away.

When i got home i fitted it in and their was some areas that needed filling more. Picture time !

Then i shaved the trigger fitting pads as per instructions no pics sorry. Then the trigger group went in pushed very hard and it locked. I flipped the gun over to check clearence and as you can see on the pictures it was still rubbing a little i used a razor blade to outline the excess then ill go file it down again tomorow. On one picture you can see its not sitting right its angled to the left.

Thanks for taking the extra time to take photos as you went! I say pictures are always best for this sort of thing.

I bought the stock from Jerry. Looked at the fitting information provided in this post and others and basically said... "I can't do that - i suck at math". Doesn't make sense to me at all.

So I called Promag and they told me to just push on the trigger group - HARD. Mike told me to get a buddy, and push it down. I was worried about bending the trigger guard... but it did not bend. It took two of us and it locked into place.

Mike from Promag says it's the tight fit that gives the stock its accuracy. He also said, he'd wish more people phoned him before filing down their stocks unnecessarily.

For the record I have a Nor M-305.

For what it's worth, I'd give the guys that designed this awesome stock a call for their advice. Don't take my word for it - I'm nobody.

Promag makes the stock for the M1A.
The top of the stock MUST be altered for the chinese receiver. Don't care what the promag guy says. You gotta remember, they don't manufacture for chinese rifles in the U.S. , they haven't been imported there in years.
The posts by myself and others, describing the top of the stock clearancing is a must do procedure or your rifle is not sitting correctly in the stock... But it's yer rifle ;)
 
I agree with the doc.

I was able to to get mine installed without the mod (just to see if it was possible), but all you need to do is take one look along the long axis of the right side of the receiver to see that you need to remove some stock.

Happy it all went together BUT do have a look at the final fit.

Stressing and bending is not ideal and this set up doesn't need it. Things may bend or break during firing if bent enough.

Twisted receivers are not good for longevity.

I would expect firm hand pressure to be needed to lock the trigger guard. 2 guys, is a wee bit too much force me thinks,

Thanks Gentleman... appreciate all the advice I've received on these forums over the last while.

Yes, perhaps two guys is a bit much to fit the trigger group...but it doesn't cost very much to make a call to the guys that built this thing and ask for their opinion- they understand the m-305 dimensions. Any manipulation of the stock should (in their opinion) only take place fwd of the trigger group, underneath the stock, if necessary.

I suppose time will tell on my stock.

I have much respect for m14doctor on this site and intend no disrespect. Again... thank you Sirs, for all help.
 
Hey Jerry ill send you an email as soon as I gt home from mexico. For the others me to at first i tried to fit the trigger group with force it did go in but the reciver was tilted to the left at about a 10deg angle so id say with a scope that would be a problem i have a 2007 Norc M14 btw. Secondly I dont like the fact that ill have to call my buddy everytime i want to put back toghter my cleaned rifle... As i stated before in my first paragraphe this is only what i did to MY RIFLE if you try it its at your own risk. Just by playing around with the stock and rifle you can make some observation that leads to what i have shown here.
 
The tutorial you made is awesome...

Here's an other one I followed from chalkriver:

I made all steps for my Norinco M14S (2011 model) and it worked flawlessly!

Grinding the front sling swivel stud down a bit also helped! :)

But Big Work was on the beveled edge (6¼") and also on the shoulder pads (for trigger housing)! Dremel and files were a big help...

I got it to go together but it took alot of pressure to close the trigger guard, and it passed the trigger function test . After reading what the M -14 Doc posted I went and took a look at it .The Chinese receivers have a beveled edge on the right side of the receiver it is about 6 1/4 in long

I used a file and dremmel and 220 grit sandpaper and cut a groove in the inside of the stock to get a better fit with the receiver

The trigger pads still had enough material left so I still have the proper resisitance when closing the trigger guard. And it passed the function test as well .There is still a tiny gap on the left side of the receiver but the right side and rear is flush now

I also filed the front sling swivel down a bit on the inside of the stock
