WTF? They got my application May 14th. All interviews completed by June 10. I've called 3 times since then, and been told it's still in processing. You lucky SOB.

congrats on getting your pal, now as i've said in other threads, since we live in BC dont bother buying any restricted firearms. (that is unless you feel like waiting 4-6 weeks for the CFO to approve the transfer and LTATT!!)

Just kidding, restricted guns are well worth the wait. ;)

NOOOOO That's exactly what they're trying to do!!!!!!! I SHALL OVERCOME! Haha but seriously, I really only wanted to get mm PAL to take a rifle or shotgun with me when I go on off-road adventures but figured "since I'm getting this, I might as well get the other." Got my CORE at the same time too so I've got the holy trinity. Eventually I'll probably be getting some sort of restricted handgun or black rifle but probably not in the near future.

July 10: Recieved in the mail, total 47 days from mailbox to wallet

Nah, they're onto ya. They didn't want to delay your application and tip you off about any investigations they have going against you. :p

Congrats! Took me like 63 days to get mine, lol.

Mine was 52 days from when they received it to my mailbox.
It seems 7 days was wasted, they sent me a letter for me to phone them for my interview.. They had my email address and phone numbers. It took seven days to get to me.

I just passed my cfsc today and will be dropping off my application for PAL in the next week, what would people say average wait time is?

what would people say average wait time is?

Assuming that
  1. You filled everything out correctly;
  2. You and your references are all good about call in for reference checks; and
  3. You haven't done anything in the last 5 years that might be a concern
Then I'd guess 45-50 calendar days. That's 7 days for them to get your application, 28 days for them to issue it, and 10-15 days for you to receive your license in the mail.

If you are looking to get a restricted, add another 4-6 weeks for your LTATT. (Note: if you are going to get a LTATT, I suggest you write your MP about it. It shouldn't take take more than a week, but BC has been super slow lately. I'm hoping a little political pressure will help them get through the backlog a bit quicker, or at least force them to be more transparent about the cause of the delay.)

Right now I'd say you just don't know. I'm at day 90 now, still waiting.

Holy crap...three months!!and still no word?

I heard the delay was 3 to 4 wks for ltatt, and 4 to 6 wks for licenses(after the bccfo receives it). There seems to be some rpals going through fast, but it's my guess the delays affect first timers through the BCCFO office.

I am concerned that with the hiring freeze, the efforts to clear the backlog will not be successful, and this will only get worse.

My BC timeline

Here is my timeline (also BC)

May 13: Decide to get licensed. Registered for CFSC/CRFSC classes.
May 26/27: Took classes wrote exams
May 30: Sent application via registered mail
June 4: Application arrived at CFC
June 18: Emailed CFC to ask my application's status (it wasn't online yet)
Jun 21: CFC emailed back asking for my personal info, which I immediately sent back
Jun 22: CFC emailed me back to say my application was online. I called and did my interview. My first reference also called in and did the interview.
June 28: 2nd reference called in for interview
July 2: Application marked as "issued" online (exactly 28 days after CFC received my application)
July 3: Applied for LTATT over the phone (they gave me my license number over the phone too) and faxed copy of my range membership
July 6: Initiated transfer of my first restricted firearm
Jul 13: Received license in the mail

Still waiting on LTATT and restricted transfer.

90 days since app received, 60 since all interviews done.

I sure wish i knew the secret of how to avoid having my app traverse the black hole abyss that is the bccfo office.

Some SEEM to get their licenses issued direct from the CFC,but I'm told they don't issue them, the prov cfo does(or approves them, anyway).

I'm not sure how the bccfo has time to view some apps mere days(if not hours)after being approved in Miramichi,While others sit well over a simple "due process"timeline, with little or no info as to where in the process their paperwork actually is.

They received my app in NB on june 8,sent to bccfo july 3,and I'm told "if I'm lucky, and a real good boy:rolleyes:,I might get it (regular pal) before hunting season starts.

Booo....Fek da guvment

My wife just checked and found out hers has been issued and is in the mail 5 weeks from the time the app was received. Since several members of my family have now gone through the process I would like to offer a word of advice as a result of what happened with my daughters app. I was a reference for her and a month after we had all received our RPAL's hers was still pending and when she phoned to investigate found out that her file had been put in a dead basket as a result of an unsuccessful attempt to reach me for a reference. Since I was not home my answering machine answered the call but my message was the generic one built into the phone and since it was not personalized to identify the party they do not leave a message to call them regarding a file number. I was warned about that by my daughter and changed our answering machine to a personal message. The following day we had a call from the CFC that left a message and file number. My wife called them back the following day and within 2 days her RPAL was issued.
