My best three-shot group ever

Good morning senior! Don't you know you have to put the target at least ten feet away so it doesn't get powder burns!!!!! :p

Yes, this target will go into the reloading book beside one from loads I got with the rifle. Those were 16.5 gr IMR 4227 and Sierra 45 gr spitzers, and the best three-round group was 0.3585" (also at fifty yards).

This rifle does NOT like IMR 4198 or H110, but it sure does seem to like the 4227!

Anyways, when you are a middle aged white male with a sagging middle, thinning hair, fading eyesight, etc etc, you have to brag about SOMETHING!!!!

Doug

The guy shoots a one hole group once in over 35 years of shooting and he brags about it..... geezuz!
Good news is he prolly won't ever shoot another one.

Jus hacking on ya Doug... that is very impressive!

Back to BIGREDD.........

You speak the truth, wise one! ;)

It's like the old fellow who goes to confessional and tells the priest, "Father I am seventy-five years old and last night I had wild ### with a twenty year old woman."

The priest says, "Are you married, my son?"

"No, father."

"Then why are you confessing this to me?"

"I am not confessing anything, father."

"My son, the Catholic Church requires you to confess your sins."

"I am not Catholic, father, I am Jewish."

"Then why are you telling me this, my son?"

Hell, father, I'm telling EVERYBODY!" :p

Great shooting.Hopefully someone was around to witness it to provide some extra enjoyment.I shot the best group of my life when someone was at the range bragging about how much more accurate his new 270 wsm was than the full length magnums. It was enjoyable to see the look on his face as we walked up to the 100 yard targets and he saw the group that I had just fired with my 300 ultramag. The top group measured .080".

back to stubblejumper.........

Maybe you Western lads measure things differently than we Eastern lads. Kind of like our eight pointer is only a four pointer out there...;)

If your bullet diameter is 0.308", what exactly do you measure to get group sizes of 0.08" and 0.28" ??? By my (eastern) count, your bullets had to shrink to get through that small a hole...

My measurement of 0.265" was the largest point across the hole left in the paper. Or maybe since I am not a bench rest guy there is some other thing that people measure?????

Your Eastern (confused) brother in arms,

Doug

You simply measure from the outside edges of the two holes farthest apart and subtract the bullet diameter. If there is only one large hole, you measure the largest diameter to the outside edges of the hole, and subtract the bullet diameter. In the case of my .080" group the maximum diameter of the hole was .388" - .308" for a group size of .080".

So western count my group size is 0.265 - 0.224 = 0.041, that does sound much more impressive! :D

But I still want to call it an eight pointer not a four pointer.....:p

That is not western count, that is the standard method of measuring group size for shooting competition. And yes, that is very impressive.

But I still want to call it an eight pointer not a four pointer..

If I had to hunt in Ontario,I would probably feel the same way. Since I live in Alberta where we don't need to make our racks seem larger, I refer to my game by the approximate B&C score. It gives a much more realistic idea of the size of the rack.

Excellant group Doug, nice shooting. I have a .221 Fireball but it's in a Remington XP-100. The best group I've ever shot is with my Savage 112BVSS in 25-06. That was a three shot group measuring 0.486" shot at 185 yds.

Thanks stubblejumper! :D

I am always learning new stuff on this website! As I said, I am not a bench rest shooter, nor a competition shooter - and now I understand the earlier comment here from ROA about a 0.00" group, which I just took to be a typo.....

Me neither, all of my shooting is done with hunting rifles and hunting loads. However,I do have good equipment, and occasionally,I do get lucky and shoot some small groups.:D

Hi Ted!

I owe you about ten e-mails.............

This is Muzzle-Loader season (1 week long) here in Ontario, and also the "controlled hunt" week for some shotgun only seasons. And I am hunting both....

The .221 has not been out of the safe in over a year. Joining it on the sidelines are a half-dozen new-to-me shootin' irons that have not yet been shot - including a .223 WSSM and a .20 Tactical. "Too many guns, too little time...."
