Well,

my M14.ca CASM gen 2 aluminum mount just came to my door. I'm very impressed with what I got. It even came with extra screws and loctite!

I'm going to have to wait until i put my son to bed tonight before I can install it. Its gonna be a looong day.

This is the last big addition I will be making to this rifle. Its come a long way and I learned a lot. I will be digging in a bit deeper into my next m305.

This was my practice run:

-Peened oprod guide mating surface to tighten.

-Peened gas system splines.

-Confirmed good bolt lug contact (cut .308 case/ hammer spring method

-Replaced oprod spring guide with NEA fatty guide

-IDF sniper stock. Needed some cracks filled in the buttpad.

-I will be replacing my gas lock front sight with a regular gas lock. There will be no front sight. The CASM has a peep sight but no adjustment. Since my barrel is slightly over indexed I've decided, for now, to just dispose of the irons. It hurts. But another kind cgn'r has lent me his stash of gas locks so i can find one that times properly to tighten my gas system. I will be buying one that works from him. Hopefully no shims or peening will be needed! It will look a bit sleeker too. Hurry up Canada Post!

-CASM mount. Will install a Burris Speed dot 135 for now because thats what I have. (I'll swap to a cheap 3-9 vortex when I can. I want something that will likely hold up to the recoil, and be covered under warranty if not. I don't need to break the bank for it.)

-I plan on adding a bipod. Nothing fancy at all.

I don't want to call this a beater gun. But really, I'm after function over fashion for this one. I'm not looking for pinpoint accuracy either. Just a fun, safe reliable shooter that will help ring my steel plate without any trouble to a couple hundred metres +/-. I only did what i felt was needed to get it there.

Oh yeah, i put a couple blobs of JB to "unitize the gas system" LOL! I couldn't resist. I dont know any welders except for my buddy JB, at the moment. Im not expecting much, but until i can do it for real I'll be testing the limits of epoxy ha!! I know. Brutal. But I can always remove it.

I'll report back with my thoughts once i get her to the range.

Thanks for looking

Thanks for the tip! I did at one point not too long ago to see if he could do some work for me. He said, due to volume, that he would not be taking on any work at the moment. I will probably try there first if i need anything done because all i hear are good things.

You can also tear down the trigger assembly and polish the contact points. Don't touch the actual hammers, but the sides. It smoothens out the trigger a bit, without turning it into a surprise automatic.

I havent been brave enough to mess with the trigger yet other than disassembly and cleaning. Mine doesnt feel half bad as is other than being a bit heavy but its a battle rifle after all. It might be something to consider if i want to squeeze a bit more out of the rifle (no pun intended). Im going to leave it alone now until I get a feel for how it shoots.
