As it turns out, I hit a double. I recently received my new Norinco 1911A1 from Gunnar @ Armco and I am very pleased with it. Before receiving the pistol, I had a magwell and Pachmyr grips put on. New trigger, hammer and sear. Lastly, the Armco Norinco tune-up. Pictures to come!

The bonus, by the way, is that while I was waiting for it to arrive, I acquired a Colt Series 80 Gold Cup which I will leave alone til later.

Now for my questions. First, what is the best lubrication to use with this type of firearm.

Second, aside from the great work that Gunnar has done, are there things I can do myself to improve the performance and accuracy of the pistol?

After reading a great deal of reading on this and other forums, I'm not interested in arguing the merits of Norincos.

I would love to hear from those who have played around with theirs in terms of home gunsmithing.

Congrats on the new Norc, great gun when prepped by Gunnar. As for mods, what about better sights? The OEM units don't do it for me and I'll be changing them out fairly soon.

Sorry about that. Gunnar also added Novak high visibility sights at the back and his own creation on the front. I knew I'd forgotten something!

I use BreakFree for cleaning, adding a couple drops of gun oil for lubrication.

It seems that you have done most of the improvements to the Norc that I can think of. My suggestion is to start shooting the gun before spending more time and money on "tuning". Some problems may show up after 300 - 500 rounds, and you may feel like doing something to it at that time.

The most possible next task will be installing a commander hammer + beavertail grip safety. If you shoot more than 50 rounds each time, your hand will get beaten by the grip safety tang pretty badly. It is not exactly "hammer bite", but it feels like it. A beavertail grip safety will remove the problem and also help you grip the gun higher.

You can also visit the 1911.org forum for more info on 1911s. They have some interesting ideas on further improving the accuracy and/or recoil reduction, such as using over-sized EGW firing pin stop, or various comments on guide rods, shock buffers, etc..

For lubricating my 3 1911's, I use Militec as well as Hoppe's 9 gun oil, you know the orange bottle that Walmart sells. One can never have too many oil bottles stashed in various cleaning kits (bench, range, vehicle) or various pistol cases and rifle cases. Keep your 1911's well lubed (lugs, barrel hood, bushing, links, slide rails, all internal pins-pivots, hammer face)
