My Covid 2021 Cabin Fever Cure - working on the SNAP SHOT!

Yes, we made a couple of life-sized ar500 deer and elk silhouettes with dynamic paddles in the right places. They were expensive, but are a riot to shoot.

Nice!

The range in fort St. John has a similar setup, but the targets have a lot of holes of them. Not sure if it’s because of the distance, material, rounds fired at them or a combo

When i bought my double rifle i make a ramp with a spring loaded gate i could trip with my hand or foot via a rope. Started rolling watermelons and small pumpkins down and shot low gun style. Didnt take long before i was shooting at tennis balls coming my way. Great fun with shotguns and slugs to or any open sighted rifle. My double rifle wears a 2.5x20 scope which i can shoot with both eyes open. It really helps develop speed. As you get better you can add in cut off lines to shoot before. Its hell on the grass though but fun

Another game i liked to play with scoped rifles was shooting eggs at various distances as fast as i could. Really helped me focus on recoil management using a bipod. Really pays off shooting pairs of coyotes

Of course!!

What does that rifle weigh with the irons?

The irons-only gun weighs 7 lbs 2oz, including the sling and unloaded magazine.

What did you do for a scout mount on the barrel? Custom bases? Hard to see from the video :)

For as-low-as-possible optics mounting to enable good cheek weld without a cheek piece, my Arctic Scout build uses a custom barrel which has about four and a half inches of non-tapered-straight-cylindrical profile immediately in front of a flange we machined to draw up against the edge of the receiver. This is drilled and tapped for a simple weaver mount.

I waited for Cabela’s to have a sale, then bought a right handed arctic and a left handed t3x varmint. I had a gunsmith switch the barrels and re-headspace them, then stole the Arctic sights for my new build and sold the other gun with full disclosure as to its origin, describing it as a tikka t3x arctic varmint.

I love the arctic sights...they are the best part of the whole system imho.

Did you by any chance came across anything close to arctic sights as an aftermarket? I'm just wondering if there are any other options to get that kind of quality irons without any "arctic" being butchered.

No, was not able to find a suitable alternative. I even went so far as to have a dealer try to order me a set from Tikka. The rear sight showed up a year later (and was like 400 bucks), still waiting for the front now 2 years running with status updates still showing back ordered; I suspect it is not coming.

Holy crapola!!! I am reluctant to spend 400 on a scope!

Great to see how far your videos have come, and great to see your daughter is still shooting. I still remember the first squirrel safari video, one of my favourites.

And damn fine shooting. I am impressed, and motivated to get out and practice.

Cheers.

Not the same style of drum sight but skinner makes a tikka peep, and now a scout rail/front rear peep combo for the tikka t3

I’ll be moving to a CTR stock on my Arctic.
Nice to see someone else shooting unsupported.

I tried the CTR stock for a while, but did not like the boxiness of the 10 round magazine, the degree to which it rattles, and most importantly my perception of how it affects the ergonomics/feel of the rifle in my support hand. The feel of the rifle was what I ultimately decided was more important than mag capacity, so I chose the standard synthetic Tikka stock and standard single stack 3 or 5 round magazines. I like that these mags also fit in my pocket better...:)

Curious if you are running your arctic with sights, or if you are running glass?

Best,

Brobee

Running open sights.
You might be right about the conventional T3 stock / mag system - if Trudeau gets his way

When I was in basic training, (US Army, 1969) we practiced snap shooting with BB guns, with no sights, shooting at ping pong balls at about twenty feet. It became easy for me to hit the ball 90% of the time or better. I was pulling the trigger as the gun came up. With the M14, the human torso targets were easy to hit at twenty-five yards when it was too dark to see the sights. Good video.

That sounds like like a great drill
I’ll have to try that
