Hi guys,

I've finally found the time to do a small write up on my buy of the summer. I've always wanted a true long range .308, and found a deal on the forums here. I bought a Rem 722, in an AICS 1.5 stock, all done by a member here (GunBoy). The rifle has a blueprinted Remington Model 722 action, with a custom 1.5" stainless 8 flute barrel, Gunboy tells me he cut the tighter than match spec chamber himself. I checked the measurements to determine the ideal COAL for my handloads using Hornady 178 gn AMAX bullets, and found a factory COAL of 2.800 to be almost ideal! This thing is put together tight! After finally buying a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50 FFP (G2DMR), and getting it all set up, and making a bunch of loads, and mind you I have not even begun to work a load up for it yet. I simply went with the 178 gn Amax over 45 gn Varget and set out to zero it. I managed to pull of a .271" three shot group, with (2 flinchers), and a solid .350" five shot group at 150 yards! This thing will out shoot me anyday! She is one sick long range tool, and the pride of my safe. Since then i've picked up 100 lot of Lapua brass, and a Redding neck die, so I will start to really put some time into developing a load, Oh, I also picked up a new Chrony!

I seen that gunboy has a custom built rifle in .260 Rem listed in the EE! I wish I could afford this beast as well, as it would really compliment this one, and the .260 Rem really intrigues me. if he did half the job on that one as he did on this rifle, It will be top shelf!

here are some pictures.....

I saw both of those and wish I forked over the money for the one you purchased. The barrel maker on that rifle is an interesting gentleman who worked under PO Ackley back in the day.

Good luck with it.

Nice rifle nice group.

I have to ask..... Did you shoot those with hand loads that were measured out using the Lee scale that I see on your shelf? I'm really skeptical of mine because its a pain in the backside to zero, and super touchy.

Nope.... I bought the Lee 50th anniversary kit to get started, and the first thing I bought after that was a digital scale. I used the Lee scale maybe twice! IMO, for getting started, it did the job, but thats about it!

And the Rifle posted here? Well, it just keeps getting better and better! Its a keeper, im really enjoying it. Since I bought it, I picked up a Chrony, and now im really starting to learn!

Regarding the post about the barrel maker, your referring to Bevan King? Id like to know more?

Ginnz.
