We were out Monday evening trying to find the bull moose we saw the day before when this little 3 x 4 mule deer (barely 4! LoL ) made the mistake of walking out 150 yards in front of my daughter.

A single 165 grain Partition launched @ 2650 fps from her lefty Savage .308 dropped the buck where he stood. (165 gr Partition, 43 1/2 grains IMR 4064, CCI 200 primer, Norma brass ) The shot was a perfect broadside, ribs on the way on, ribs on the way out with the top of the heart/bottom of the lungs liquified. The little buck droppped in his tracks.

if I recall correctly, thats your daughters third Big Game kill, congrats to her is in order :D

Thanks for tthe comments guys. I will pass them on to her.

Grouseman, yes this is the third buck she has shot in tha last three seasons. She also shot a doe on a limited entry tag last fall but she didn't want to have her picture taken with it! LoL

Good for her!

Now what about that picture I was promised of her with a nice buck (or was it bear?) and a BLR in her hands!?!?

Hi Doug.

The BLR didn't fit her well at all and the recoil slapped her pretty hard. It was also too light for her to shoot well off-hand. That is not all bad however as the first moment I held it I told her that she would have to wrestle me for it come this fall. I used to have the same rifle in .358 and didn't realize how much I missed it until I shouldered the one we bought from you.

When Rembo posted a sweet little 1960's era left-handed Savage 110L in 308 a few weeks ago I decided to take a chance and see if she could shoot it better. I just received the Savage from Rick 10 days ago so had very little time to develop loads for it. I had a very accurate partition load worked up for the BLR that also grouped quite well when I tried in the Savage. Jill shot a few milk jugs off-hand at 100 yards the day before she shot deer so she had no hesitation to take the little buck at ~ 150 yards.

Well by golly then I guess I will need a pic of you holding the BLR and a monster buck, 'Boo!

If you get tired of the rifle, it does have a return spring........... 8)

Congrats, you must be one proud dad!

Damn right!

Thanks guys.

She is my favorite hunting partner.

Here is her buck from last year. He is a real big-bodied 3 x 3 taken during the pre-rut from the edge of an alfalfa field. Like a lot of bucks that live their entire lives around cropland here in the BC interior he was around 300 pounds live weight. She shot him at ~250 yards with her 30-06 loaded with a 165 grain Interbond. BTW, The huge amount of blood-shot, even at 250 yards , has pretty well soured me on the Hornady bonded bullets.

This one here was her first big game animal from 2003. A little fork-horn mule deer. The little buck was peeking around a tree and the only shot she had was the neck. A 180 grain ballistic tip from 75 yards launched from her 30-06 dropped him wher he stood.
