My DIY goose decoys

I got this idea from another forum. The other guy made them out of the sonotube but I thought these would be more weather resistant. They are made out of 10" drainage pipe so it is light and easy to cut. I have a friend in the drainage biz so I got all the scraps for free. You can basically figure 8 decoys for every 4' of pipe give or take. I had some scraps of plywood so I just stenciled on some heads. I also had the black and white paint kicking around. I have about 30 of these and they basically cost me nothing. Even to buy the material it is very cost effective (in my eyes). I don't have a pic of them in the field but they did bring the geese in this past year. I'm not saying these are as good as store bought, but they did the trick. They are also super easy to store because they stack on eachother. Just thought I'd post this up, maybe give you guys some ideas on a winter project.

That piping is going to shine like a mirror on a sunny day! Not saying it isn't a savvy idea but I would find a way to eliminate the glare.

I was worried about that too, but surprisingly it wasn't that bad, not enough to effect the geese anyways (or hasn't yet), likely because the surface isn't flat. I think it would be worse if they were out in snow with the reflection and stuff. If it becomes an issue I can always hit them up with some flat black paint.

Good idea, I will be making some of them (only smaller ones for ducks)and as stated the flat black will kill any shine.I think they will work well.

Just wanted to bump this up as the season is in full swing. I got out for the first time last night and happily had 3 sets of geese, ranging from 7-13 birds light right on top of these decoys and stayed for 5-10 minutes. Needless to say i will be putting together a few more. Again, im not saying these are better then store bought, but they do a good job for cheap. I also have some sections of sonotube i got from a dumpster i will try out. Best of all is they are so easy to transport when they stack up.

I have used up to six dozen of a similar type. Paint the main part of the body with flat gray automotive primer ... more realistic & it kills the shine.
Makes the black head/neck & white rump stand out !
