About 2 mons ago I picked up a 10/22 from Canadian Tire with a particular build in mind. I have CAR 15 with a .22 CMMG conversion kit but it's restricted status just limits my trigger time. I miss the old days of grabbing an AR and plinking on Crown Land.
I want my wife and kids to learn how to use AR type sights, be able to shoot in a safe outdoor setting, not scare them with 556 blast, and not blow all kinds of money on centrefire ammo. Eventually I want them to try my CAR15 with the CMMG kit then move eventually to 556.
Bought a Archangel kit from another Forum member and started my build.
This is what I did:
1. Bolt release mod
2. 2.5 pound trigger tune
3. Threaded the barrel
4. Installed a fake solid aluminum can
5. Installed picatinny side rails
6. Installed single point sling system
7. Fold down sights (waiting for a riser block for the QD scope rings for the rear sight)
8. Mounted a QD 3X9 illuminated armoured scope
9. Installed a forend tri grip
10. Bought a Blackdog drum and Promag MP5 stick mag
11. Installed a QD bipod
12. Installed larger cocking knob
I just LOVE this platform.
Shoots great, feel solid, accurate, and the trigger is just so much more predictable, light, and crisp!!!!!!
Also pondered whether to spend the few hundred on a 12.5" .22 barrel but decided to keep the stock as it shoots so well. All parts were from Ebay or Alibaba as I am on a budget. The bolt on parts interchange with my CAR15 for the most part.
So whats left? Maybe a ECOG scope knockoff.
Here are some pics and a big thank you to this Alberta Machinist who put this all together. His rather large and expensive HAAS CNC equipment is just so precise compared to the cheaper lathes I am used to seeing in action, too bad it takes so long to set it up, and write the program.
I also have a metal quick detachable AR/A2 style rear sight-handle and a AR style front sight both mount to a picatinny rail system that I may sell just haven't decided yet.
Also looked at the SR22 but wanted the option to always switch back to an old school wood stock as it's all about choices to me.
