Recently got restricted license and looking to get a 22lr pistol. What's the best choice of 22lr to train with that would be most similar to a 45cal. Looking to get something I can put a lot of rounds threw, easy to disassemble/assemble and built up good technique and consistency. Anything will help!

I bought a GSG 1911. Its not bad just make sure you use CCI or Blazer Ammo in the 525 box. I used Blazer in the 50 round boxes and it would stove pipe every once in a while. I was told after that the ammo in the 525 round box is different. I have had no issues with it at all. I am sure once it is broken in it will be better. It's a nice gun for me though.

Ruger .22/45 has similar feel to a 1911, and a reputation for reliability with cheap ammo,

M&P 22 would be perfect for your needs, as you can later on get the M&P 45 if you want and it's the same in almost every manor, but with adjustable grips/safety difference/slight slide variation.

The M&Ps are great from my experience with them.

Buy a Sig or Glock 9mm and then buy a .22 conversion kit so you basically have two guns in one! I have a conversion kit on my Sig and whats great about then is that they are made by sig sauer so they work great on the gun. There is also a variety of companies for .22 conversion kits for a Glock too. Good luck. Cheers.

This is your best bet the gsg 1911 is ok but my good buddy has one and the amount of failures and it keeps breaking the same part I can't think of it off the top of my head though I would not recommend it and if you go with the sig or glock with the 22 conversion you will get more proficient using that platform

What sig model would be a good choice for my first pistol? And are all models available with 22 conversion kits?

Yes, I know you can purchase a conversion kit for the P226 and P220. Not 1000% sure about the P229 because of the barrel length but the other two are definitely available. Secondly, it really depends on personal preference and what you like most. If you want to work your way up slowly, buy a P226 in 9mm or 40 which is a little more cost effective than the P220 in 45 acp. As I said before, you cant go wrong with any Sig in any caliber. If it were me, I would go for a P226 in 9mm or 40 to start off with the .22 conversion kit and then down the road when you get comfortable with it buy the P220 in 45 acp to cap off your Sig collection!

Let me know if that helps you out!

Oops! I just saw you can get a .22 conversion kit for a P229 too on Questar. You are going to want to visit there site. Now it all depends if you have large hands or small hands because the P226 is the large-frame and the P229 is the stubby "compact" model. FYI, the OPP uses the P229 in a DAK model if that makes it more enticing! :)
