Ahoy hoy!

Just before Christmas 2011 I started this build, slowly collecting parts as money became available. On Friday, March 9th I received the last 2 parts I needed. The barrel and hand guard. I installed it, and went shooting Saturday and Sunday. Now I can finally show off my new toy.

Parts breakdown:
-Armalite Lower With Daniel Defense LPK
-Magpul MOE Grip
-LMT 'Milspec' Size Buffer Tube
-LMT Heavy Buffer
-Magpul CTR Stock
-Daniel Defense Upper
-Bravo Company Mod4 Charging Handle
-LMT Bolt Carrier Group
-Daniel Defense 10.0 Lite Rail
-Magpul AFG2
-ATRS 16" Mid-Length 1:8 Twist Wylde Chambered Match Grade Barrel
-Troy Industries Folding BUIS (HK front.. :()

Shout out to Tyson at Wolverine, Dustin at ATRS and the crew at Questar for supplying over 90% of the parts for my build.

Black on black, with more black. A real black rifle :D

With irons I'm within 4-6" at 100 yards, but that's all me. I'm not used to iron sights. My other rifles are all scoped, so I thought I'd give it a try with the irons, plus I'll be picking up an optic / red dot in the near future. I'll either be going with a Aimpoint T1/H1 or a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24.

The first shot was a bit scary, the local smith here was closed on Saturday and I couldn't have my barrel head spaced so I just went for it, no problems. The guys over at ATRS make some really... really.. did I say really nice stuff. The barrel on it's own is a work of art. I did the break in procedure as per the Lilja break in procedure, that took some time. Then I started to have some fun with 5 - 10 shot strings cleaning in between.

All in all it was great fun doing the build and shooting. If you're thinking about doing an AR build go for it. I know every part of my gun, how to troubleshoot and fix it, and how to supposed to work.

Once I get a good optic I'll be back with a range report because I'm sure no one wants to see terribad groups at 100 yards.

On another note.. I noticed my trigger pin, the lower one kept 'walking' out after about 20-30 shots and I had to keep pushing it back in. I installed it as per many lower receiver build ups but this eludes me... any advice?

Cheers and thanks for looking :)

Check your hammer spring, trigger pin popping out is one of the signs the legs of the hammer spring is sitting on the bottom the receiver instead resting on the trigger pin

Hammer spring is resting on the trigger pin. Which side should the notches be on on the pin when looking top down at the lower? I had them both on the left as per the instructions I followed from AR15.com

Honestly I think you are worrying about nothing. You don't have a precision rifle so chances are if most folks don't notice walking trigger pins at venues like CFSAC it's not going to make a difference with your rifle and your skill level. Shoot it and don't worry about it.

i have never really notice which way the notch is, try flipping the pin around and see if that helps, order get another set of pins from a different manufacturer, once in awhile a hole was drilled just a bit on the generous side while the pin is slightly stingy on the tolerances.

nice..i'd gone with a 12" - 14" rail.

Hindsight told me the same thing. I thought a 10 would be long enough to cover the gas block.. bah.. anyone want to trade a 10" rail for a 12 :D.

I'm waiting on my battlecomp from OST, that's why there isn't anything on the end of it.

I swapped my trigger pin around but I'll have to wait til next weekend to give it a try.
