Well I finally found some time to finish my first attempt at building a precision rifle. I started with a savage modle111 that I got off the EE then I added a 26inch Shilen prefit select match 9 twist varmit contour barrel chambered in
257AI that I got from Jerry at Mystic Precision then bedded into a Choate tactical stock also from Mystic ( thanks Jerry) . I also added a Rifle basix SAV2 triger set at 1lb. , EGW rail , Weaver tactical rings and a Sightron III 8-32X56 LRMOA scope that I also got off the EE for a good price. I broke the barrel in while fireforming the brass and the targets are my first fo at load developement.

That is so cool. I bought a Model 111 on the EE and went the same route with a 1-10 Shilen barrel and an Accustock. I'm definitely liking the looks of yours better. I did some load development with 75gr V-Max and XBR and it exceeds 25-06 velocities burning less powder. I bought a box of 100gr Nosler BT bullets but haven't tried any loads for it yet. Jerry did the barrel install and bedding for me and he does nice work for a reasonable price. What powder did you use with the 100gr bullets?

Nice rifle. Compliments to the gardener too.

I'm a sucker for 25 caliber rifles. Have a 25 WSSM on a custom Rem 700 set up for 1000 yd benchrest. The 1:8 twist bbl will stabilize 135-145 gr bullets. The 25 WSSM works good and has shot nice groups. A new 25 is in the works with a 1:7 twist bbl ordered.

I went with 9 twist because I wanted to be able to shoot the heavier bullets like the 115gr VLDs , but it seems to like the 100 gr noslers so maybe I will pic up a box of the 85 gr noslers and see how it shoots them.

well I think I have the poweder charge narrowed down so next trip to the range will be playing with seating depth. Thanks for the compliments guys

Well after trying adjusting seating depth and powder charge this is what seems to work best 115gr Burger with 50.5gr H4831SC and Fed match primers with the bullet seated .005 into the lands.

Those are excellent groups. Not many people will shoot a 10 shot group and willingly post it.

Thanks for the compliment KDX . The ten shot group was looking really good until I pulled the 8th shot a little to the right. What I did was shoot 5 then let the barrel cool down then shot the other 5. Would have liked to see the 200 yard group a little smaller though.

Nice groups !!

Still working on getting my 25-06 Ackley field ready (9" twist Broughton). formed some cases but had to go with one piece extented talleys (which came in today) to mount the scope I wanted to use. Im forming cases with 87gr. Speer cheapies (while breaking in barrel) After that Ill check everything from a variety of 100gr. to 125gr. Matrix bonded bullets (FB and RBT). Ill probably will hunt with 100gr. TSX as long as they shoot decent.

thanks Pathfinder. To form my cases I used 18gr of LIL'GUN filled the rest of the case up to shoulder with cream of wheat and pluged the end with a wad of paper towel. Works great and saves on barrel wear.
