Its a .50 caliber 1 in 66" twist green mountain, siler lock, all iron mounted, curly maple stock. It will be converted to a flinter as soon as my new lock arrives. To get the stock dark I used a little trick I got from a message board in the US. Before staining I painted the whole stock with diluted "lampblack" water color artist paint. Very important to use lampblack only as other blacks don't work as well. Once it is dry the curl will be black and the lighter spots a light gray. Using 220 grit lightly sand until just the curl is left dark and the lighter spots have just a hint of gray left. The stock will look like a black and white photo. I then stained with laurel mountain forge Amercan Walnut glycol based stain. It penetrates unbelieveably well. It will make your whole stock look black at first but gradually it lightens a bit on the parts with no curl. After a day of drying I used BLO over top of the stain The browing is laurel mountain forge and is fool proof. It is way better then BC plum brown although I use BC for screws and small parts still.

Nice looking rifle, I reaaly like the lines on on it,looks like a good balance. How long did it take to build, any problems inletting or drilling?

Wow it looks sweet nice job!!! I'm thinking of buying one of the Track of the Wolf kits myself I'll post pictures of it out of the box in pieces all the way to finish for you guys. I'm thinking of buying the Tulle "C" or "D" I have a soft spot for smoothies!

It was a very easy kit, Inletting was pretty easy ( the part I was least fond of but my kit had most of the hard inletting done), this was a great confidence builder since I didn't end up with a ruined stock and a box full of parts. I might have spent 15-25 hrs on it

I have heard it is real easy to end up with a rifle that is worth less then the parts in it since good parts will cost you upwards of 500 USD.

If someone is thinking about taking the plunge go for it...glad I did. Here is some advice based on my first build... in no particular order:

- Buy a good book on rifle building (Dixons!!!)
- Keep your tools sharp.
- Go slow
- Buy an easy kit for your first build.. you are more likely to finish it and be happy with the results and then want to build another!!!

Easy

installing lugs (no problems)
fitting nose cap ( I was really scare of this part and it went without a hitch)
browing metal (draw file and apply solution...very easy to get good results)
stock finishing (i'm an old pro with linseed oil)

Moderate

fitting pipes (don't know why just didn't like this part)
pining barrel (use a drill press!!!)
installing sights (had to file lots)
Inletting trigger guard (long narrow inlets)
shaping trigger guard (lots of heating and bending)
inletting lock washer

Hard

stock shaping (very easy to get carried away with a rasp)
butt plate fitting (very time consuming)
toe plate inletting (aaaahhhhhh!!)
entry pipe (double aaaahhhhhh!!!)
