Even with perfect shot placement, bucks sometimes run a fair ways. As posted above, it happens. That's hunting, be prepared, and be resourceful. Clearly you were. Thanks for following up on that apparent "miss". Lots of guys just assume a miss if they don't see it fall.
Both of my crossbow deer fell within 100 yards this year. Neither one left even a speck of blood on the snow, except where they fell. Both were double lung shots with complete penetration.
