On this past sunday, my last day in camp, with the Barrie Hunt Club, I joined my fellow hunters on a 30 minute uphill walk to one of the hunting positions.
As I was catching my breath a deer ran out just in front of me. We were out of doe tags and I thought I was seeing a doe. I readied myself for the buck I was sure would follow. I then looked closely at the "doe" and realized it had a rack.
I was able to get my Savage 340C 30/30 on target and deliver a good shot. Just a little high as I got the tops of the lungs and the liver. I saw two puffs of fur and knew it was a through and through.
We tracked it only 50 yards before we found a nice 8 point buck on the ground already expired.
I don't have the other pictures yet but this is one of it on the pole. For my first deer I think I did alright.
BTW: We had enough tenderloin to feed 5. Charley prepared a meal that was superb. And on a wood burning stove too!
