Well for my first fall hunt I didnt think I did too bad.
This turkey it my biggest turkey for me so far as this year was my first for hunting, back in May I got myself 2 jakes with 4" beards and this guy has a 10.5" with 1" 1/4 spurs.
I got him as I was on my way back to the truck to head back home for some food till all of a sudden to my left of where my truck is parked I see about 15 to 20 turkey, so I ran around into the corn field and slowly made my way closer to them. I set myself up just a row behind the corn close to a path that runs into the bush and thats where I figured they were heading as I always find their tracks in the mud. I had myself in a nice spot as they started to get closer and I was able to get a good look at what bird I was going to take my shot at. I finally had one that I wanted in range and lined up, I pulled the trigger and had myself one dead bird.
When I was cleaning him up for the freezer I noticed something odd, there was some shot in the meat and not from my shot someone else as the shot was smaller and lead as I use a copper coated lead shot size 5 and most of the shot was healed over. From what it looked like someone did not know what they were doing, just had a real bad shot, or bad shot pattern.
Well anyways here is a couple pics.

Nice Bird!

Hey, Great Tom, and great story too.

The other option is that he caught some flak when someone harvested another bird from his flock earlier.... maybe he was a youngster standing behind the old Tom and took some colateral....

Congrats!

Yeah never thought of that. Could have been as the shot did look like it was in there for awhile.
Also not sure if this guy had issues walking cause when i cut the leg off I found a pellet right in the joint of the leg. Not sure if it bothered him but kinda glad I picked him out of them all.

Nice one! I tried going out Sunday for first fall turkey but couldn't find any. Although I did see coyote and startled a huge deer.

Well you still have about a week left and around here there are lots of them wandering threw the feilds you just have to walk around and find where they travel. With the rain we have had it made it more easy to see their foot prints.
I would think with that coyote around maybe thats why you never seen any turkey you should have shot it. Thats the next thing on my list as soon as I get my new savage 22-250 is to shoot some of them coyotes around here.

That's a beauty! I'm not sure why I've always been under the impression we don't have wild turkey in BC though... Looks like I'm heading out in the next couple weeks to get me one for my family's American Thanksgiving...

Apparently we do in the interior but I am not sure exactly where.
