Finally picked up my Sig p226 enhanced elite from Reliable Gun today. The staff were great today, took time to answer my brother's questions even though they were busy and he was just window shopping! I received my S&W MP9 last week from Wanstall's. Was going to bring them to the range this weekend, but registration certificates still have not arrived...maybe if I'm lucky it will come on Monday or Tuesday... Looking forward to visiting the different ranges here in lower mainland to see which one I will join. The trigger on the Sig feels much better than the S&W (using snap caps for now). I tried both during my Silvercore Handgun 1 training, but didn't really notice it back then...also, the S&W slide release button is not working properly (need to manually pull the slide back first before it will release), although I've read that it will improve with use. Was really tempted to buy a Grand Power during the dlask sale, but by the time I decided, they were sold out :(

Anyways, without further ado :)

Congrats on the 2 guns. Very nice choices esp. the SIG!
Unfortunately, you won't be getting your reg for a while. In my experience, it takes about 2-3 weeks for it to arrive by mail.
Does the slide stop on the MNP not release with the mag in or out or both? I've seen that problem with the mag in usually. May have something to do with the weird feature on these guns where the slide slams shut when a fresh mag is inserted forcefully on its own.
Where in the GVRD are you? Burke Mtn ( Poco) and DVC are probably your closest. Enjoy your new toys!

Does not release with mag both in and out. Will give it some time to see if it wears in as I have read on other forums. Not a big deal, but it is an inconvenience.

I'm in Richmond. Was going to check out PCDHFC and I've put my name on waitlist for abbotsford just in case.

Does the thing with the slide release only do that with an empty mag? The slide release on my Grand Power does something similar when the mag is out of the gun or inserted but empty .....works fine with a loaded mag. I called Dlask about it when i first got the gun and was told it was normal ......it needs a loaded mag to work without having to pull the slide back slightly as you describe.

I think it does have to do with the way they are designed to "auto-chamber" a round when you slam home a fresh mag.

Congrats! Welcome to the addiction….before you buy anymore semi's you must handle/shoot some revolvers! You'll understand why…..

Did you know the S&W had the mag problem before you got it? My friend has one and it's fine. Hopefully it will wear in
Abby is a great club to shoot at
Very nice facilities. Only problem is the rifle range is only 100m. You will love the pistol bay!. Good luck and enjoy your toys!

My Ruger SR40 would take some serious pushing to slam shut with snap caps or empty. It wasnt until it was loaded with bang pills that it would close smoothly. Wait until you put some fireable ammo in it, you may be surprised.

Nice handguns! The P226 was my first handgun....after shooting it a couple time, I decided that I needed another one...just in case!;)
My third one was a MP 9 ...the grip is very comfortable...but prefer the P226. Enjoy it !!

Nice combo, I have a Sig 226 and I'm hoping to pick up an MP9 (or maybe the .22 version).

I can't speak to the MP9 but with regards to the Sig there is a loss of quality between the Sigs that are German made and the Sigs that are made in the USA. I'd highly recommend picking up a spare parts kit. I picked up one from Questar.

Had no idea this issue existed before I bought the MP9. It occurs regardless whether a magazine is inserted or not. I had tried my instructor's MP9 at the range and his did not exhibit this issues, so hopefully it will improve over time (from what I've read from other forums). Can't wait to take them to the range once my reg certificates come. In the meantime, just practicing at home with snap caps

I'm hoping to try out skeet/clay shooting next year so hopefully will be adding a shotgun in the future :) Also need to buy a safe :)

Hey Buddy!

Nice lookin guns ;)

Along with the other clubs mentioned, try to head up to Thompson Mountain. It's a great place to shoot and really awesome people.

Have fun and be safe!

Took them both to the range for the first time this weekend. My thoughts:

Sig P226 - I'm in love! Nice, light trigger when in single action. Ergonomic grip felt great. Got nice tight groups at 7 yards right from the very start. Did notice a little muzzle flip. Even though grouping is nice, I'm consistently shooting a little to the left, any idea what I might be doing wrong?

S&W MP9 - Very disappointed with this one. I had tested this gun during my handgun 1 course, using my instructor's MP9. At the time, it felt fine, not sure if his trigger was broken in or if he had an aftermarket trigger. However, using my new MP9 at the range, I could finally see why so many reviews complain about the trigger. Trigger pull is heavy and long!!! When switching from the P226 to the MP9, I would squeeze the trigger for about 5-6 seconds and wonder why it wasn't firing, only to realize how heavy the trigger was! Not surprisingly, my accuracy was much worse with the MP9. Not sure if dry-firing with it at home will help improve the trigger or not, but if not I will either sell it or look into an aftermarket trigger. We got the MP9 as the smaller grip size fit my wife better, but even she hates the trigger.

edit: anybody have experience with apex trigger kits? Not sure what the difference between the action/carry and the competition kit is.
