Just acquired this K31, in excellent shape; walnut stock with very little butt abuse :p , almost perfect bluing, VG bore and all matching #'s including the bayonet (diopter not included). As the butt stock tag indicated Lucerne PD, I emailed them a note to enquire if they could share any additional info and was pleasantly surprised to receive the following prompt reply:

Dear Bill

For several decades, the Lucerne police had a reserve of 100 pieces of Swiss ordnance carabiners.
The police officer were then only equipped with a pistol, which is why these weapons were handed over to the members of the corps in case of possible large-scale deployments.
In a later phase, in the beginning of 1960, the carbiners were replaced by the Sturmgewehr SIG, Model 1957.
Since then, these carabiners were stored at the cantonal police of Lucerne.

Since these weapons were no longer usable for police use, they were used on behalf of the police commando.

On January 7, 2009, the weapons were sold and exported to Gunsmith at Calgary Shooting Center, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
There was also your carabiner with the number 711250.

We send you friendly greetings from Switzerland.

Ooooo you got yourself a beauty there! Very nice find, in walnut too.

The tags under the butt plate are one of the coolest things about these rifles I think. Always more interesting when there is a story attached to a firearm!

You've got to get a case or three of GP11 now, because I'll tell you, K31's can shoot, and shoot very well!

Got some on the way, looking forward to shooting it for sure!

That's really cool. The person who took the time to write you back went the extra mile to make this rifle special.

Absolutely, they replied back very quick too - Swiss efficiency :)

Nice is an understatement.
Do you have a circled 8 stamp into the side of the buttstock, or LU on the tang?

Looks like you have the Gehmann 562 color filter iris on your W&F diopter.

Their plain Gehmann Iris without the colors is the 511.

Or is it a Centra brand?

The diopter is not origional to the rifle, and was not part of the final deal....although I tried LOL.

Amazing condition, where did you find something like that?

Ended up being local to me here on the Rock. But then it would be very surprising to some I suppose just what some collectors have squirreled away down here. Seller is also here on CGN, but I'll respect his privacy unless he jumps in here himself.

Excellent info, Thanks.
I own two of those rifles from the exact same place, with the exact same butt tag.
Both are in new condition with their matching number bayonets.
