I just got my first Krag last week. I have seen these off and on for decades but never bothered with them. On a whim I saw this beater on the EE for cheap and thought what the hell.
I must say I am very impressed with this rifle. The mechanism is ficken ingenious.
The rifle was in poor shape. Badly repaired stock, blueing on barrel very bad, rear sight some terrible cheap leaf spring thing you would see on a 22.
The thing had been rechambred to 6.5 54 MS in the 50s
I stripped it down, cleaned the pine needles out of the action, polished and reblued the barrel, polished the bolt to mirror shine and added, now hold your breath, a Mosin rear sight. The original mounting holes had been filled and a dovetail had been cut in the barrel to fit the crappy rear sight.
This rifle is cut down so it will always be a sporter.
I had no idea how the mechanism worked until I had stripped it. Amazing clockwork precision on these things. Very well built.
I have no idea how it's going to shoot as I had to order my ammo from one of the sponsors and they are taking their sweet time.
6.5 54MS is not a common cartridge so I will start reloading this after I have collected some brass.

Smooth action, eh?
I find mine to have the slickest of any of my milsurps; and I've probably 60-70% of the more common actions, LE, Ross, Mauser 96 & 98's, M-H.

I have one in 6.5, but it barely shoots "minute of barn door". At 30 yards it shoots about .75" groups, at 100 yards I'll hit 3 out of 10 on a 4x8 sheet of plywood.

I wish mine shot better as I really like the action. Both for it's ingenuity and function. Would make a great little deer gun...

Have you tried different bullet weights ?
Dunno that'll help, but may be worth a try.

Smooth as a baby's butt. It has to be one of the nicest actions in a milsurp.
I don't know where it will shoot. The bore is dark and pitted but with very strong rifleing.
