My first Lee Enfield 1944 Longbranch

Yup I agree all of my LE's do that to federal cases. PRVI cases come out looking just like they did before firing. I bought a bunch of it and don't regret it. I don't feel super safe about reloading federal, winchester or remmington cases. P&S has PRVI factory loads and trade-ex had the brass not sure if they still do or not but both are worthy investments if you like shooting it.

Still not sure how wise it is to shoot this gun with the zf stamp, but glad to hear that the cases look normal. Im hoping John tells me the butt is not original.

I think the butt was swapped. I'm like you. I agree that a gunsmith inspection is the safest, but I shoot my milsurps after my own inspection. Some will say that it's risky but it sure gets the heart pumping just before that first squeeze...

:p

Green paint is apparently from the asian tropical theatre.
Really cool to me. Probably fought in the jungles.
No word on butt yard, but it shoots fine.

Brass looks normal to me :) To be honest, though, that would bother me that the bolt head can come up out of the guides.

I'd probably try to have it built up with gas mig/carbon steel wire and filed/milled back to normal if it was mine. That's if you forced me to keep it. Since you want to keep it because you like the paint, that's what I'd do. Otherwise, I'd be sendign that one back as defective.
