I am planning on building a M1 Garand and I found two brands of receiver that fit my budget, Breda and Beretta. Which brand is the easiest to find parts for? I'm trying to keep the rifle as original as possible.

Finding good Beretta (PB) or Breda (BMB) marked parts will become a very expensive and sometimes futile search. Your best option is to find the best parts available and build up a good shooter. All Garand parts are interchangeable as mentioned.

Like restoring a muscle car, building a rifle can take time to find date coded manufacturer correct parts. There is a lot of information available for the Garand and fortunately they all fit. For me locating the right parts is half the fun. You can put it together with mismatched shoot it and continue your search. If part numbers really matter to you. Does it really matter if the oprod or hammer numbers are correct?

10-15 yrs ago you could pick up Breda and Beretta made and marked parts quite easily. Not so much today. They key thing is that all military Garand parts, whether made by Springfield, WRA, IHC H&R, Breda or Beretta are interchangeable. There are even some Danish and W. German made replacement parts that work well.

Anyone contemplating a Garand build should get the Kuhnhausen Shop Manual as a technical reference.

The pi$$-poor exchange rate isn't helping with buying parts from the US and Canadian sources are drying up.

The early birds got the worm, thank God. :)

Quite often you are better served by buying a Garand shooter (as opposed to collector) here on the EE forum and then "customizing" it to your own tastes as time and $$ allow you!

The longer you wait, the more challenging this project can / may become!

i also bought a receiver to build(it arrived today) i found this info at a forum in the us where someone was doing a build he said these m14 parts will interchange with the the m1. i wonder if m305 parts will work?

hammer
hammer pin
safety
hammer spring, plunger & housing
trigger
trigger pin
complete rear sight assembly (but the garand pinion is in yards)
extractor
