about to buy my first o\u. i read a l;ot on different forum and i think i'll end up buying a citori CX 30" 12ga.
whats do you guys think?
i will probably also use it for gouse this fall
is 30" good or should i get a 28" ( i am 5'8")

Between the 28 or the 30, I'd go with the 30 inch, most guys are now shooting 30's now for sporting clays, but the 32's seem to be gaining more popularity. I've been shooting a 425 and a 625 Citori for about 15 yrs...both 30's. I've used my older 425 for grouse and pheasant too.
IF, I was gonna buy a new sporting clays gun today, it would be a 32 inch...just because I occasionally shoot trap as well !

If you're looking for a good used one, the Gun Dealer has one now on his used shotgun page now for 1999.99...Listed as VG condition, it also comes with 7 extended chokes as well. That's a $$ 600 value in itself !!! Excellent price !!

Honestly, I've found the gun dealer is extremely honest with their gun condition valuations. If anything, I've found they under appraisal them. VG mostly means excellent.

Nice! Just going to throw this one comment in from my experiences, please completely disregard if you're locked in, just how it shook out for me.
Started with a 686 with 30" tubes when I started messing with SC games, that shotgun hated me, I almost gave up on SC, then got a CXS and things improved somewhat for me, finally at the prodding of a fella that is quite proficient, I bought a A400 Xcel Sporting and everything changed for the better, a very marked improvement!

Since then, I have had it fitted and a Isis adjustable pad put on and it's a whole new world out there with SC games. Even if you stay the course with a O/U please keep aside the funds to have it fitted by someone who knows what they are doing, it is an amazing confidence builder when the shotgun is dialed into you!

OP, if you really want to know which would be the best O/U shotgun for shooting clays, the best advice to give you is to "Find a shotgun that fits you properly"

Far to many potentially good clay shooters start out with shotguns made to fit someone else, or are set up to fit someone else.

This can be overcome with lots of practice, but always leads to lost clays.

If a shotgun fits properly, isn't to heavy or light, for your personal comfort levels, your eye will automatically follow the beads and track the target through the swings, with minimal effort. Timing the shot is up to you.

If the shotgun butt is to long or the comb is to low/high, you're throwing more calculations into ever shot and it can become tedious.

There are some very good clay shooters on this site, shooting one or a couple of different venues, they often have one shotgun for each venue and if they hunt, one more appropriate for what they're hunting.

BEWARE, shooting clays, no matter which venue can become EXPENSIVE, because it's ADDICTIVE.

Intersurplus, and a few other BANNER advertisers have some used O/U shotguns at IMHO, incredible prices. All of them can have their stocks altered to fit properly and some may have adjustable stocks.

The thing about shooting clays is you can shoot with a low end shotgun, but then you come across a shooter taking out every clay, round after round. Often they will have a high end shotgun, but not always.

I saw it and spoke with several who admitted they went through a half dozen or more shotguns until they settled on "one" for the venue being shot. It wasn't necessarily high end, but either modified to fit, or adjusted to fit.

Are you local to the area there or did you have to get it shipped ?
Was thinking, if you're picking it up, he also has the best prices on target ammo too...Top Gun, Challenger for 110 a flat plus carney's tip !
Any who...best of luck going forward with it. Come back and let us know how you're doin with it and how addicted you've become...lmao
Cheers...Kevin

Congrats on your purchase!
Did you end up getting the 30 inch barrels or the 28?
For sports the 30 's would be best but for hunting the 28's would be easier to handle. Most sporting clays guns around here are 32 with 30 a close second, not many 28's on the range anymore but they're still there.
