Well it took a hell of a lot of work, but I managed to do it. The paint, well god the paint was everywhere
. There was at least 4 layers of paint on this gun. Whoever painted it first used good automotive primer. The only thing I found that would cut it was paint gun cleaner. By the time I got it all off, the receiver and barrel were completely bare of any finish so a complete rebluing was in order.
I was able to get a NOS walnut forend and butt, got a DP front handguard and a nosecap. I was able to salvage the coachwood rear hanguard. I know it doesn't match the walnut, but I liked that it was original.
It has the Aussie H barrel so it was quite a process to fit the forend. I just kept chiseling away at it, and removing a little at a time and kept checking the bedding till I got it.
Thanks to all who supplied parts and advise! Range report Sat hopefully.
BTW don't use paint gun cleaner in a plastic wall paper tray. I dumped some in one in the garage, went in the house for 10 mins and came out to a large black puddle where the tray was
