I bought a Mossberg 500
Picture004-1.jpg
from the shotgun exchange and found out it has a cut down barrel from 30 inches to 20 inches. It is marked full choke. It has ghost ring sights with a ported muzzle.

What kind of ammo can I fire from this gun.It is marked 12 gauge 2 3/4 and 3 inch only. Can I fire slugs? Is the choke cut off?It also came with a spare barrel.

A real long one 30 inches full choke. The pistol grip that came with it went into a drawer. It probably kicks like a mule with that grip.

I e-mailed the nice folks at Mossberg and they translated my serial number to August 15 1979 manufacture date.I never felt the need for a shotgun before I came to this forum[I'm a vegetiarian]I learned better, when I heard of the, inevitable Zombie invasion, from the folks here. Now I need a pitchfork bayonet, to round out my package.

I only paid 75 bucks for it, with extra barrel, and pistol grip, so I didn't know what to expect, before I got it on Friday .It was coated ,in multi layers, of spray paint. It took me several hours with fingernail scraping and soaking in Acu-bore, followed up with ultra fine steel wool.Should of taken a before and after pictures.Internals look Ok, with very little corrosion.Magazine tube was almost completely gummed up.Took everything apart and cleaned it up good.Haven't test fired it yet.Going to try some light birdshot loads, first. [My coyote dog and three cats, refused to become vegetarians[got sick], so now we have a refrigerator, with a whole section of raw meat.We grind it up ,guts, bones, and all, and feed it to our carnivores raw. They love it]

Looks good for $75 bucks! The ghost ring sights are about that much.

Should be good to go with any 2 3/4 inch or 3 inch shells.
Rifled slugs not Sabot

yes, your good to go with any 2 3/4 " or 3 " shells. by cutting off 10", your choke is gone and your down to a cylinder bore. you can however have the barrel bored and tapped to accept screw in choke tubes.

You tried making your dog into a Vegetation? Dude, that is seriously messed up. WTF is wrong with meat?!?!

I wish you could take my place for a while. You have no idea what it is like living with wife, and 2 teenage girls, that are hardcore vegetarians.I'm not very religious about my diet, and eat meat when I can.[at my brothers place] The poor dog lost his fur, from the vegetable diet.I put my foot down, and went to the butcher, and bought 50 pounds of condemmed meat.I grind the meat up, and threw a few veggies in, to tell my folks he's trying to be a vegetarian.Dog looks great now.My three cat's fared better, because they could go into my property, and kill squirrels and rats to eat.I learned ,the hard way, the importance of meat protien.

Great deal!

My first was a 1957 30-inch barreled 870 Wingmaster in 2 3/4 only I got for $150 at a gun show.

Open up that long barrel to modified and you can happily hunt ducks and geese with that gun for the rest of your life.

Hell for 75 bucks how can you go wrong. You'll have some fun with this one. I don't think though that i would put any more money into it. It looks like it's already tricked out pretty well. Have fun.
