I made a very bad mistake and bought an air rifle at Cambodian Tire. It sure looked nice with a stainless finish and a scope already mounted. The gritty, heavy, horrible trigger and 3 inch groups at 10 meters soon convinced me of my poor choice. So I did what any self-respecting gun nut would do and consulted the forums and the interwebs. After much reading, video watching, and stat comparing I settled on the de-tuned Weihrauch HW50S. I wanted something to dispatch mice and starlings at our rural property but also wanted something quiet for basement shooting fun. Thanks to the nutz on the site here I discovered Specialty Shooting Sports and placed an order. I assumed that the gun would be half decent given it's price and German origin but I was surprised by what I received. This thing is heavy, solid, and serious.

I also ordered a scope and a mount for the rifle, choosing an Optisan Cobra and a Beeman (turned out to be made in the UK by Sports Match) mount. The rifle itself is very well finished and the stock is extremely comfortable to shoulder. The only minor thing I can quibble about is the somewhat rough finish on the iron sights. Compared to the rest of the rifle they seem to have been made by a low bidder somewhere in eastern Europe.

However they function perfectly. The rifle comes with several different inserts for the front sight and I found the narrow post and dot worked well for my less-than-perfect vision.
After playing around I got serious and installed the scope. I took a chance on the Optisan as I had never heard of them but there were many positive reviews on the European airgun sites. And for $130 I wasn't too worried about an expensive mistake. It turned out to be a perfectly suitable optic, clear and easy to zero, and more importantly it held that zero.

The only quibble with this item is the o-ring on the parallax adjustment lock ring got smushed when I set it.

The "Beeman" mount is a rock solid bit of steel that is strong as an Abrams tank. It looks like they made it for .50 BMG.
One of the features I kept reading about on Weihrauch rifles is the Rekord trigger.

Everything you'll see about it is true. It is fantastic. I wish all my center fires had triggers this nice. It's adjustable but I found it perfect right out of the box. Crisp, light, predictable.
I set up in my palatial indoor shooting range located at my evil genius secret underground lair (basement) and zeroed the scope.

After several hundred RWS super points I figured the rifle was properly "shot in". I set up on the rest and took 5 shots, returning the rifle as closely as possible to the center aiming point of the target.

35 feet / 10.7 meters.
Well, that's my 2¢. I'm very happy with my purchase(s) but unfortunately I find myself spending too much time sending lead flying through the basement. It's the ultimate no excuses shooting experience - just go downstairs and stay until my arm is too sore to load anymore! And now I have yet another type of gun to spend time comparison shopping and tire kicking...
