I received a P229 Classic 22lr today and after a curiosity inspection I can say that I'm definitely impressed. This thing screams quality. From my initial inspection, the fit and finish is impeccable. It needs to be stripped, cleaned, lubed and tried out. I will post the positive or negatives as I find them. For CCW, something in this size and fit would rock.

very nice !! any reason you went with the .22lr ?

You can't beat the price of shooting .22lr, and having the option of changing slides and barrels to another caliber is a definite bonus.
The new SIG SAUER X-CHANGE Kit™ is the perfect accessory for your SIG SAUER Classic .22 rimfire pistols. Now shooters can add SIG SAUER centerfire performance with just the change out of the slide assembly, barrel, recoil system, and magazine to any of the standard production pistol calibers; 9mm, .40 S&W, and .357SIG. Exchanging components does not alter the reliability or accuracy of either assembly.

Owning a SIG SAUER Classic .22 and a centerfire X-CHANGE Kit provides the added benefit of owning two pistols in a single premium package. More shooting at a lower cost with the full size SIG SAUER pistol you’re accustomed to; the SIG SAUER Classic .22 caliber pistols that now include the option for centerfire performance with a SIG SAUER X-CHANGE Kit.

LOL , well heres my explanation (coming from welder at work) he always uses it when has a good looking weld...... So I took that as it looks good ??

Sounds snookum to me. I cleaned the top end and lubed it with Rem Oil and it feels really slick. These are very well made pieces of equipment. My initial complaint would be that the trigger is way out there in DA only.

Does the slide lock back on an empty mag?

With the conversion kits, they do not.

If not, than you better be counting your shots or else you will be striking your 11 trigger pull on an empty chamber which is not a good thing for 22LR.

No, the SIG conversion kits do not lock the slide back. I put a spent casing as the first round loaded into the magazine to avoid dry firing on an empty chamber. It is very important not to dry fire on the SIG conversion as it will damage the chamber face where the firing pin strikes. There is an aftermarket part that allows the slide to be held back... it's a metal follower that replaces the plastic one. Just came out for the P226 and P229 conversions.

Love mine, but it sucks that it doesn't lock back.

Do you have any more information on those followers? Where are they sold? Original SIG part or aftermarket? The lack of hold-open is a total game-killer for me with these pistols.
Thanks,
Grant

1 mag, no lock on the last round. There is a guy on the Sig forum that is supposed to have a cure. When he starts to produce the followers I will order one and let you know how it works.

edit to add....here's a link to the new followers https://w_ w.collectors-society-slabs.com/shoppingcart/categories/*-New-Follower-Info-/
Just fill in the address info because I don't know if it's OK to hot link to a site that's selling stuff that isn't a sponsor.
