I am going.It will be 2013.
If I am still living I will hunt in Africa. Looking at Botswana or Zimbabwe. I have started saving and have cut purchases and will be buying nothing except that which is necessary. The only exception to that will be another bird dog the next year or so. It costs me very little to hunt and shoot here. I can walk out my front door for moose and bird hunting. I am going to make Africa happen. Life is a blink
Dan
Good on you Dan. I owned one of the rifles I took, and bought another two years before leaving. I had a dummy copy of the SAP form from my outfitter and filled my form out from the online site. I see my link is not operational but your outfitter can send you the form to fill in.
When you do go the form filled in, a letter of invitation from your outfitter, copy of firearms registration certificate, and passport photo page and oddly enough the green slip from Canada customs that you use for cameras etc. Canada Customs laughs at you when you request one for firearms, just tell them it is necessary for temp import to SA and laugh with them. The vast majority of North American hunters are from the states, and they need the customs form to import back home. They ignored my PAL and REgistration Certificates and used the hand written customs form.
I paid no money to the SAPolice, just chatted and smiled. One of the officers had a short heavy body type like mine and I commented we must be brothers, everyone laoghed as I am a pink white guy, and he was dark even by SA standards.
A comment was made about the hassel factor, but if you keep in mind T.I.A. (this is AFRICA) inconveniences, waits, and differing values become positive memories. You are in Africa man, and having the time of your life. It is not Canada. You hunt Canada aand know it well. Enjoy every waking moment, keep a journal and take way more photos than you think you would ever want because you will spend hours looking at them and remembering sights sounds and emotions.
Your first will not be your last trip.
