After shooting doe's year after year, I finaly got a shot off on this three by three, looking right at me. Standing on a tree stump at 125 yards.
First shot he was down, I gave him 5 min then started to walk up.
At 30 yards he jumped up looking right at me, so I put one more in him.
Then when I get there he is not dead yet so I stick on in the head.
First shot was high in the rear back, sec on was in the neck, broke his spine and the last well in the head. He did not want to die.
He was taken with a Sako 85 30.06 with Horady 165 grain BTSP.

I could care less how your deer looks after it's dead - dead is dead.

BUT if it were my first buck and and I wanted a photo to remember, to last a lifetime, I'd at least clean it up a little and stick the tongue back in and close the mouth with a stitch or two. Just my opinion.

congrats on your first buck. They tend to get tough when the first shot into them is a poor one...adrenaline is powerful
