My JR. Carbine first impression

dumb question maybe but what is the "brake" you guys are talking about?

As for the JR's, I just took possession of a slightly used one in 9mm and ran about 35 rounds though it tonight. I used some jacketed round nose stuff and also some non jacketed re-manufactured Wolf bullets, all cycled perfectly, no FTE or FTF.

I did however notice one sort of odd thing, the brass that came out of the JR was quite dirty compared to the brass I had coming out of my M&P 9mm, same rounds, same night, just switched up guns and noticed the difference. Anyone know why this would be?

It is because of how the action works- straight blowback. It does get the brass dirty for sure.

A muzzle brake helps to reduce the felt recoil thereby making it easier to maintain target acquisition. It threads on to the end of the barrel

The JR is a dirty gun in general, as mentioned, its the blowback action. I had a first generation, and had no problems other than a few fail to feed in the first hundred rounds, but the gun did get dirty after a few hundred rounds, and a good cleaning sure helped keep it running smooth.

i cant find one picture of a JRC with a muzzle brake!! I kinda wanna see it before i buy it. I might build my own... Any disadvantages from a simple bolt on style brake compared to a threaded brake??

Well ####, I'm a machinist by trade, if its just a matter of threading the end of it, I'm sure I could handle that. I do however agree, the recoil is minimal, myself and a few friends ran another 50 or 60 rounds though it tonight. Only issue was a couple FTE but I was running lead round nose bullets, not jacketed...and I used my own spring on the extractor since the factory one was missing.

Grizzly Gun Works. Bolt on brakes and muzzle devices. They have some nice pieces, threaded and bolt on.

If you do it on the JR it will be mainly for looks as recoil is minimal at best.

I agree. There is no recoil to speak of from the .45. 9 mm recoil, if any, would be negligible. It would be purely cosmetic to put a brake on. I guess it's like using a 30 round Glock mag pinned to 5. Looks awesome- no value.

Wish me luck CGN... I sent the Bolt, Barrel, Magwell and Ejector Plate to Elwoodepps. Hoping to convert to 9mm. My carbine (.40) was a POS out if the box. Speaking with JR Carbine in the US though... they are great guys to deal with.

good choice, mine in 9mm is flawless after 5000rds:ar15:

I can say that the folks at the JR Carbine place are good to deal with as well. I emailed them about a missing extractor spring for a USED gun I just bought. Not only are they sending me some new parts free of charge, they also took my serial # to see if it needed any other upgrades. Luckily this unit is new enough that it is as up to date as they have them right now.

On top of that, I spoke to them about what ammo to use since my gun didnt come with a manual, and with the jacketed rounds they suggested, it has worked awesome, with lead reloaded round nose, I think I have had 2 FTE out of around 100 rounds. tHey say the jacketed rounds will work better as they are a much smoother bullet.

i bought one in .45 last week. shot it yesterday and the tab on the back of the extractor plate broke off before i even got 60 rds thru it. so far not impressed, but the company who i bought it from is taking care of it thankfully.

What's the diameter of the barrel on the 9mm version?

Will a standard A2 front sight post fit right on?

They are all .75" plus or minus .01" ( jr carbine 9ml 40' and 45 )

It is presumed that you speak of generation two barrels as the standard a2 placement at the end of the forend would be hindered by the generation one flat sided barrel ...

This a2 front sight is .75". JPGS-2FS But alas it is $109.00
