Hi all,
So after years of shooting long guns and most recently the dark side of the AR world I recently acquired my new pistol from another CGN'r

I'm extremely impressed with the springfield XDM 9 the fit and finish is fantastic. The Plano hard case it comes in is very robust, the holster, mag holder and loader are all of what appear to be good quality. My only gripe is the cost of spare mags. 5 spares cost almost half as much as the pistol itself...

I have not had a chance to take it to the range yet but hopefully in the next week or two I can get up there. Meanwhile I decided to give it some flare and did some color fill on the side. I was going to do white but saw a pic with the gold and had to do it myself.

So I just wanted to say hi and also see if anyone had any recommendations for hand loads. Right now I just have a few boxes of AE 115gr to blast through.

Congrats, looks very nice. You'll enjoy 9. And you'll blast through a lot of ammo. Every range visit, I use 100 rounds in each of my pistols. And at around 35 cents a round, it's inexpensive too.

Have fun!

How do you do the colour fill? Is it permanent. it looks good I would like to do that to my m&p 45.
Stefan
The color fill is semi permanent because even after the paint cures with thinner and elbow grease it can be removed.
I use humbrol enamel paint just because it's what I have on hand from modeling scale armor. Testors enamel is available at Michael's etc.
Clean the areas to be painted with lacquer thunder
Well mix the paint
Using a fine tip paintbrush i fill the relief
Let it dry 15 min then apply another coat more sparingly
Let dry over night
Using a blue shop towel I dampen with thinner and carefully start to wipe of the paint and I don't use qtips or paper towels cuz they leave fuzz and fibers that can catch in the paint. Don't press too hard either or it can remove the paint if the relief isn't to deep.
The metalic paint is a bit harder to deal with because the pigment isn't as fine as with solid color paints.
Once 90% of the paint is off I switch to cleaning patches.
Wipe once or twice than replace. Gotta get rid of all the "flakes" that are on the surface. It takes some patience but worth the time spent in the end.
There are lots of videos on YouTube to help you along.
