finally got the rail mounted securely and slapped on an old red dot.
used fine steel wool on the stock to get rid of the high gloss finish.
sanded and polished the bolt and internals.
works flawlessly, even with cci quiet 710fps ammo.

Coolio!!! So you tapped the receiver rather than using the Weaver 60A base that mounts to the barrel?

Very nice to hear that even CCI Quiet cycle!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. I personally think the CanAm deal on the JW20 was one heck of a great deal @ $125!!!

Looks great with the red dot, I'll have to do something similiar, my old(er) eyes have trouble with the stock sights. I would think a peep sight to replace the rear sight would be good, but I don't know of a source for those. Here's some pics of mine, I refinished it as well but went for more of a worn in look, and did a little paint fill on the scrollwork to fancy it up a bit.

hey jay,no tapping, although that was my first plan but due to the feeding tube channel being right where you need to tap i opted for adhesive instead.
the 110mm rail was from ebay for a few bucks,i first used jb weld but it wouldn't hold, fell off after 5-6 shots,so i tried PL PREMIUM construction adhesive.it passed the firing test without falling off and stayed on packed in the back seat of my atv for a few outings.
the only reason i went this way is because i didn't care for the factory mount elongating the front portion of the rifle so it wouldn't fit in the back of the bike.it's all about being compact and the fact they want too much for the mount.lol

Rusty, I just took a look at Skinner's site and they are making quite a few new model specific rimfire peeps including one for the SA 22!
It's at the bottom of the page....

Thanks, didn't see that on his site before. Looks like a solid piece, I have a Skinner peep on an old Marlin 30-30 and it's a nice piece of work. A bit pricey especially with the exchange right now but would definitely be an upgrade.

A cheaper option rusty might be to make a peep using some metal banding or other on hand thin metal, and replace the adjustable notch portion or the rear sight with the new peep blade.
:)

That does look great but it appears the Marbles sight is 1 7/8" long and there's only just over an inch on the JW-20 from the rear dovetail to the barrel lock ring. We had a big snowstorm last night and this morning, I was bored and out in the shop so this is what I came up with what I had on hand. Seriously doubt it'll be permanent, just something to fool with.
Sorry for the threadjack!

no threadjack possible!
this thread was meant for others to post their comments, ideas and pictures of ANY modifications done to this fun little gun.

those aftermarket sights look awesome and the washer idea is worth pursuing, maybe smaller washers like 3mm or 4mm.....can't remember if they make a 2mm one.i use them to shim carb needles.lol

One thing to bear in mind is that there is ONE difference between the Browning and the JW-20 - the dovetail for the rear sight is smaller than that of the Browning. So, if you want to add a different sight (I'm thinking of a peep, myself), either the sight will have to be filed down, or the barrel dovetail will have to be enlarged. I'm leaning towards opening up the barrel dovetail to a more standard size, as that would open up the range of available sights enormously.

IIRC, the Browning has a 3/8" dovetail (same as the Ruger 10/22, among others), and the Norinco has a 5/16" (or metric equivalent thereof) dovetail.
