Christmas present to myself!

I LOVE my SAM 1911, and i wondered what the extra $500 would get me.

grouse river had a couple hundred off the other day, so i finally got one.

I haven't shot it yet, so range report will come once i bench shoot it and see how accurate it is, but first.

strip and clean..

Over the years I've had a number of target quality 1911's, a couple of custom jobs and a few Colt Gold Cups. I have one a gunsmith friend and fellow shooter did up for his own use and I acquired it after he passed away, just because it was 'his'.

Then, not long ago, I got the opportunity to pick up A Kimber Super Match II, which I did.

And it is, without a doubt, the smoothest sweetest shooting 1911 I've ever had, by far!!

I see one listed for sale in the January issue of the Canadian Access To Firearms paper, pg. 9. from Heym Distributors, Special price, $2,399.95!!!
Obviously I got a 'deal' on mine.

shot it for the first time today.

the first shot ever, went right thru where i was pointing. and I fell in love at first shot.

i love my SAM commander stainless, but this, wow... it's another level. the accuracy, the ease of hitting where i'm pointing.
at 10 yard free hand, my group never went above 2 inches.

I never thought there would come a time when I would say 'it's worth it' for a thousand dollar gun, but this thing is worth it...

hmm, now i'm wondering if I should just save up for a "better gun".
1k+ is always hard to part with though (enev worse when the wife finds out) hahaha

...and yet kimbers are supposed to be junk.

Thanks for the positive review - it's nice to see

Question: do they all have firing pin blocks in them?

oh i hear ya!. i'm supposed to get rid of couple of my other possessions for this (which hasn't been done yet) ;-) it won't hurt as long as she doesn't find out!

the days that i take my Kimber to the range are similar to what i remember recess being like when i was a kid.
i just laugh and smile the whole time.

i started smiling right after the first shot!

I think all do.... can't be sure though.

Lucky shot? i think so.. but it shot a blue thumb tack holding my target! (when i aimed at it)

mmm...firing pin blocks are kind of a turn off for me, unfortunately. I just don't care for the added complexity.

They make some good looking pistols, though.

I think I might go for a S&W some day, for something different. I wasn't terribly impressed with the fit of a SIG that I handled in a shop last week.
