well i have been hard at it for the past 2 months baiting the wild boars.got 100's of pics but of a night.
last sunday i did my usual check the cams, bait up and one card had 492 pics.
this is unusual,so back to the truck and checked the card.

bingo!!!!! sow and little ones were coming in at 3pm.
so loaded up the HK and went back in.
literally two minutes later she arrived.

she wondered off into the bush while the little ones were feeding,so i waited for her.
couple of minutes i had a perfect head shot.safety off........click......phuck me i hadnt driven the bolt in far enough.
so out with the mag, recycle round out,mag back in,drove the bolt back, raise the rifle, put the cross hairs on her
CLICK!!!!!! WTF

please bear in mind i am literally 60 yards away from a 300lb sow with little ones, not exactly the ideal situation to be
phucking around.by now my heart is pounding out of my jacket and i feel a wierd sensation going on with my rear end.

by now this sow knew i was there and she was getting somewhat pissy not knowing what i was.
i did the same with the rifle four times before i got a round off and dropped her and two littles ones.
i ran out of rounds,so i legged it back to the truck for another mag(not going in again unless i have three mags, lesson learnt)

when i got back in i just caught her doing a runner into the bush.i tracked her for 15mins but lost her.
then i stumbled across the pigs beds.this isnt good,as i know from my cam there is atleast another six big big pigs in this bush.
so i called it quits and got from there for my own safety.

here is the pics from the game cam.you can see a little black dot which is me and the sow watching me!!!!!

I have had that happen with my SL8 before too (I'm assuming you're using an SL8). The charging handle acts as a forward assist if you lock it perpendicular in those situations when you don't want to let the bolt slam shut and scare the prey. You may have already known this, but a lot don't know why the charging handle locks to the side the way it does. Cool pics, I'd love to find a group of boars to shoot.

so you are saying you shot three pigs and never found any is this right ,Dutch

second to bottom pic on my first post has the sow on her side from the head shot.then the bottom pic is her just
managing to get up and do a runner.

here is the two littles ones that got it

my apologies for not posting the proof

so you head shot the sow, then went to your truck, then came back, she got up and ran away, you tracked her for 15 minutes then gave up. Is this correct?

So maybe there's a reason ethical hunters don't do head-shots eh? You know...so the animals we are entrusted with aren't able to "get up and run away" (with no jaw) to slowly starve to death.

Really???

Youre going to rake him over the coals on a non-game invasive species that needs to be eliminated? A feral hog problem?! He took a head shot and it went down. When he returned it had gotten up and was booking out. He tracked it to the best of his ability within the given situation. Who the heck are you to pass judgement on the shot someone took? Must be something to hunt with you? I would love to see the ethereal glow of the shiny halo and lights beaming down from heaven upon you and your ultra ethical kill shots!! I am sure every shot you make is perfect, never out by 1 mm and all your game drops emitting a a huge wind sound that sounds for all the world like "thank You" because you chose such perfectly placed shots?

Hmmm, I wonder if anyone else sees the irony in your username?

Apparently the one you quoted is as such trying to besmirch the Ops hunting abilities...
Hence one of the reasons he or she has joined the coveted iggy list.
I know lots of guys who take head shots and drt and then there was the one guy who beaned the deer right at the base of the skull and antler and he thought it was dead...but, that is a tale for another time.
If I had hogs in my hood like the tail cam shows , I would be buying a bigger gun... 444 Rem anyone?
Tight Groups,
Rob

Who goes pig hunting with only 3 bullets? Or was it a spray and pray type shooting with only 1 mag?
I'd love to hunt wild boar

As for the head shot. It's common practice down south to aim for the head when using small bores on pigs
