I loaded 5 rounds today for my LTR 223. 70 grain Berger VLD, loaded 10 thou of the lands. I just used a starting load of 23.5 gr W-748. I wanted to see if it liked this seating depth. I fired a 5 shot 1/2" group.!!!! Now I have to do the ladder test at 300 to really see what charge it likes.

That never happens to me. takes me a box of bullets and a half pound of powder sometimes. :) Least I get to shoot lots. :D

Well done.

Bergers

It took me half a box of bullets on my 260. I did a lot of reading on them after, and they like being really close to the lands. I always like CCI BR4 primers, and the W-748 was a powder MANY people recommended. Glad I listened!!!

Generally (And I've shot tens of thousands of Bergers) the VLD's DO prefer to be jammed past first land contact anywhere from 10 to 25 thou. There has been much written on the subject of jumping them substantial distances with good accuracy. My experience has been to the contrary.
