Apologies in advance for the cell phone pics. If you'd like to see a closer look at anything in particular, just ask.
Ordered my first M91/30 from Al Flaherty's without knowing much about these rifles. Payed $175, and was happy to receive a 1942 Izzy arsenal refurb with all matching serials in pretty decent nick. Stock is well worn, but no major dings or gouges.
Caught the Mosin Nagant bug while researching all the markings on it, and immediately wanted more. Good thing they're cheap!
Put in an order with Frontier for a 1929 ex-Dragoon, because I wanted a hex receiver. Payed about $230. Just got in today. It has all matching serials and seems in somewhat decent condition. The stock is banged up pretty bad, and the bolt has seen better days. The action looks great, and the bluing is very good. For some reason, it does not bear the arsenal refurb indicator anywhere. Did some of these rifles just head straight to the cosmo? I'll be cleaning and finishing up the de-cosmoing on this one soon.
Didn't intend to, but I picked up a Polish M44 from the Parry Sound gun show on Saturday. Payed $115, came without a bayonet. The rifle is in superb condition with matching serials, save for the bolt. That thing is a mess, clearly taken from another Mosin. It was forced matched, too... but not to this rifle. I've ordered the bayonet assembly from Ellwood Epps. Since the condition of the bolt so poorly compliments the rest of the rifle, I'm thinking I'll be polishing the bolt on this one.
This brings me to the real question. I'm thinking about how far is too far when messing with the condition of these rifles. I won't be going bubba on any of them. I'm thinking I'll leave the 1942 as it is (seeing as everything is looking good on it), refinish the stock and bolt on the 1929, and then go all-out with the M44 (glass bedding, polishing the bolt, trigger job perhaps)
