Fellows, just wanted to show you my new Winchester Model 94 30-30 made in 1954. I've named this carbine 'Old Savage', a good, solid name. This carbine puts the bullets where I aim and it was also made the same year as I was born. It seems to be aging much better than I.

For those who might want to know more about the leather 30-30 cartridge belt slider and the Bowie and sheath, they were all made by Alan Soellner of Chisholm's Trail. The Bowie blade is Solingen steel and the grips are Sambar Stag. I really like this knife; it has become my primary wilderness and hunting knife and the carbine will be my primary wilderness gun when on remote wilderness canoe and camping trips with my wife and family. It's hard to beat a light, compact, fast 30-30 carbine for packing along in the bush. I like a knife with a long blade. One of my pet peeves in the wilderness is trying to skin a large fish with a dinky little blade, and I resist carrying a fillet knife. It's also good as a last resort if one of those nuisance Cougars too lazy to go get a deer, lands on my head.

Is this because you wish it was one?:D
By gum, MadDog! St. Joe Island! I think I might have bumped into you before on this forum. I've been hunting each fall on a friends farm on the F&G. Never got anything this past fall, but if I'd had a doe tag it would be another story.

I do like those old Savages, but my spartan budget keeps me to just a few old Winchesters.

My deer camps on the Base Line and there are a few other CGN members that swing in for a cold one with me during deer season so feel free to come by next year. My crew actually hunts the F&G as well during the week. We usually hook up with the Moore gang (Camp Dumpaclip) and push the small patches of bush out in their farm fields. We had 5 bucks and 2 doe's hanging by Thursday night and the game pole busted in half and we had to tie them to tree's for the night.

Brownie, it came with a hood, but I took it off. I also removed the rear sight elevator and put a lower front sight in to keep the snag-ability down to a minimum. It now shoots 1" high at 100 yards.

Win94, yes, I got the name from Old Savage on the leverguns forum.

John Spartan, i'm looking forward to photos and a report on your 'new' vintage '86! Matt landed a nice Model 53 in 44 WCF.

MadDog, that's a whack of deer!

Geeze Kirk....nice gun.....wonder where you found that one.....it sure looks nice in that picture. Gunna have to frame that one for sure.
By gum, I figured this carbine would look familiar to you! I really like this 30-30. Thanks again for being willing to part with it. I'll probably have a range report to post in the near future, once I decide on my load. Right now, a cast GC 150 grain bullets seems to work very well over 30 grains of IMR 3031.

Yup that is what I am reloading too. So glad you are happy with Old Savage.. You also were going to give me a recipe for the 38-55. I have 245 cast bullets and am presently loading 27 gr imr3130. but i will need some jacketed bullets too. the 1906 rifle don't like reloaded cast. It will not even chamber them but factory no problem. the other 3 I have like the cast.

Fine looking carbine Kirk. A real beauty. And as always, your presentation is fantastic. Wish I had your camera skills.

Looking forward to seeing this one when I get out again.

Matt

P.S. I'll drop a pic of the Model 53 44-40 on here once it's in the fold. Getting anxious.
