Nice rifle.

For your "break in" all you do it shoot it and keep it clean. For your first few shots clean after every one. If it takes a long time to get clean then shoot a few more and clean after each one. Then try your first 3 shot group and clean well after it. See how your barrel cleans. If it cleans up easy and there is little to no capper fouling then you can call your break in done. All barrels are different and take different amount of shots to break in.

Buy yourself a bore guide, stainless coated one piece rod and a proof positive jag. That way you don't get a false copper sign (blue patches).

That 5R is a ###y looking rifle. Please post how you like the 17 FB. If you've never shot one before I think you will be impressed.

Ya I have played around with my buddy's 700 .17 FB , and really like it
The whole reason I ordered it was, We were told by those in the know :onCrack: , that this would be the last year here on PEI that we would be able to hunt fox with anything bigger than the .17 cal

So here it is, and 3 days after it showed up I got a call from those in the know :onCrack: and the word is that they are going to let us use up to 22-250 again for at least one more year

Oh well most of us don't need to big a reason to buy a new toy

You can drop a coyote dead in it's tracks (with proper shot placement) at 300+ yards with the 17FB. It's definitely fun to shoot.

+2 I have shot wild bore at 200 yards with my 17 Remington and dropped them. I don't recommend it but it will do it.

Those particular ones are 20gr V-Max and 18.9gr of Benchmark powder. I found out on another site that Cooper's pet load is 20gr V-Max and 20gr H335 and I will be trying that out on paper when it dries up a bit more and I can get out in the country.

I wouldn't break it in... I would just shoot it. There is no proven benefit to breaking it in, but the corollary is there is no proof that justy shooting isn't in some way harmful.

I gave up breaking-in years ago and have never looked back.
