Just finished my new toy,Rebarrelled my Sako AV to 9.3 x 300 Win Mag.I have only fire formed a few cases to get dies made.I Am going to the range with it today hopefully.I took a picture of a loaded 9.3 X 300 Win next to a 9.3 x 64 for comparision, the 9.3 x 300 is on the left.I am hoping to get 2800 with 270 grain bullets,we will find out in a couple of days.Should be a real thumper on bear or bison.

Looks very nice and interesting! Great choice of rifle and round.

May I ask why (not being snotty - just interested)? My 9.3x64 (without the belt that gets in the way of the mag box width sometimes) gets 2680ish with 286 gr bullets --- I have never tried it with 270 gr but im guessing in should be 2750 ish ......

Is it because of the brass or because it was there to do?

It will be a keeper for sure tho

makes my 9.3x62mm look tiny ;) Very nice looking animal. Just a tad of info for you I'd recommend putting an updated bolt guide stop in that thing. I imagine it is going to thump a bit & you do not want what happened to me last season.

The guide & the bolt on the bottom of the photos is the updated one.

My 338 Gaillard locked up last year. Thankfully it was only a coyote I was shooting at & not the trophy of a life time when it failed.

Just trying to save you some frustration in the field ;)

Stoeger carries them.

Nice rifle.

Nice rifle!! ....... Giving up on the Norma?

Thanks Supercub no i'm not giving up my Norma that one is going underground with me:)

Just got back from the range trying out my first testloads,I used 9.3 x 64 max loads for my starting loads and was right one the money.75 grains of 4350 behind a 270 Speer was just under 2800 it just started to flatten the primers at 79 grains and last 3 shots were 2911 2936 and 2912.I stopped there I mabey able to go another grain or 2 but I am more then happy with 2900.Last three shots went into 1 1/4" I'm sure it will do better when it breaks in,its a KING barrel so i know its going to shoot.

That is smokin!
Might as well ship me your x64 now, you'll never need it again.;)
What would you describe the recoil similar to?

Who did the work & the bluing?

I had a friend of mine who is pretty handy with guns install the barrel and the bluing is a cold blue on the barrel only, blueing on the action was good.I warmed the barrel up with a heat gun and used Birchwood Casey paste.I polished the barrel with 1500 sandpaper before I started,Gave it 5 coats with a good polishing with ultra fine steel wool between coats. It looks like a Sako blue job shiny like glass i'll see how long it lasts.

Now THAT is what Why Not? (Ted) needs.

You listening Ted? This is the answer! I'll even hook you up with a part box of 286 TSX's.

Actually, Garry and I have collaborated on this project a bit. I formed and loaded the first dummy rounds, he spent all the money! :D

He did a great job on refinishing the stock! Put new Zebrawood forend tip and grip cap on it, recut the checkering, full-length bedded it with Marine-Tex, and finished it all up with a very fine hand rubbed oil treatment.
