That is one fine rifle. I want to purchase something similar to "round out" my collection.
I have been looking for an Anschutz 54 target rifle, and a Brno #4 for a while now. I was a few minutes too late for a nice #4 on the EE, a few months ago, but I replied as soon as I saw the add for the 54. I have some SK Standard Plus on hand, and I intend to try some SK Rifle Match as well, as both are reasonably priced for decent quality ammunition. I will likely try some Midas as well, but I won't be shooting such high priced ammunition on a regular basis.
I fired the rifle for the first time today. Using SK Standard Plus loads, I managed a best of 5/8" for 9 shots at 50 yards. The tenth round opened the group to just under 1" because I am still getting used to the light trigger, and fired before I was totally ready. Apparently I need to learn to shoot with aperature sights as well, as I seemed to put four shots into under 1/2" with almost every group, then throw a flier. Now my mission is to learn to shoot this rifle, and then try some better loads.
Nice find. I bought one last year also, 1971 was the year of manufacture. Just waiting to get mine back from the gun smith, it will be wearing a new Lilja barrel. The old barrel had damaged rifling about 6" back from the crown. It's been a long wait, almost 5 months from Lilja and now the gun smith. I will also use SK Standard Plus and I'm going to try some RWS R50.
