Hello Gents,

Just got this back from the gunsmith and had to share.

It's my Cowboy Assault Rifle (C.A.R.) a Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun. I got a XS Lever Rail system with Ghost Sights fitted for a solid back up to my scope.

Since I'm left eye dominate but right handed I got a Aimpoint Red Dot Scope, the CompC3 2X (1MOA dot).

Added a good 2-point sling and a ammo cuff (good for 9 rounds) to round out the package.

All that's left is a lot of shooting and some handloading to get the right 45-70 round

Once I get the bugs ironed out, it'll take up residence in my car as a constant partner.

Thanks for allowing me to share :shotgun:

PS, I've tried to include a couple of pics. Hope they come out right.

The rail is a pretty sweet set-up. While you could install it yourself, some of the parts might need adjustment. A good gunsmith could bang it out real quick :D

Well, I like old Winchesters and I like them just the way they came, but I'd have to admit that you've got yourself a sweet rig there. If a fellow in a vehicle ever tries to run you down, you can simply demolish his engine with one round. With a gun like that, if you ever needed to clear a house, you wouldn't need to bother going from room to room .... you could simply let 'er fly right through all the walls. Probably not a good 'apartment gun'. One nice thing about a 45-70 shooting 400 grain slugs at 1,900 fps ..... there ain't no cover for the bad guys.

Not my idea of excitement..thats for sure. If you're into tactical cowboy shooting, might as well get your horse a bullet proof vest and get started. Still wondering why you didnt go with a muzzle break on it.

If you're going to go pimp...might as well go all out. Don't forget about the bedliner. No self respecting C.A.R rifle is complete without it.

My choice of scope wasn't due to a desire to go "Pimp".

Being right handed and very left eye dominate limits my options. I tried a proper scout scope and just could not get comfortable with it.

Technology for the sake of technology is silly but when it helps a person overcome limitations I'm all over it.

Mind you, if they made a lefty lever it would have considered it.

As for a muzzle break, half the fun of this rifle is the big boom/flash show :D

I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to lever rifles. When riding, I prefer the way a slab sided Winchester 94 fits under my right knee better than my scoped bolt rifles. But I'll be the first to admit I shoot a lot better with a scope!

if they made a lefty
My brother is a lefty and due to his "handicap" (jk) his favorite rifles were always Savage 99 lever rifles as during the 60's and 70's, lefty bolts weren't very common in most rural areas. For Christmas one year (mid-eighties) his wife bought him a left handed Rem 700 in .22-250! For the first time in his life he owned a scoped bolt action he could finally manipulate as easily as his Savages.

I think it looks a little odd, just that it is different. Function and purpose is what you were after and you achieved that. I think it is kinda bad-a$$ looking. I bought dad a red dot for his .450, he usually does not warm up to "new" things, but he really digs the dot.

I like it, but I've always been a fan of the Alaskan Co-Pilot and similar guns from Wild West Guns.

I've long considered a similar build but with a new 16" barrel so it'd be more of a trapper/scout kind of a deal. Short on funds, unfortunately.
