I recently purchase this entire setup from a CGN member (thanks Bushido for the rifle and the fine stogie!), and after some cleanup and time with the trigger, I am very happy with this rifle.
I have an affinity of rifles chambered in parent company cartridges (i.e., Model 70 Featherweights in .308, .270, and other Model 70's in .300. .338 etc.) and those of other makers (Model 20's in 250 Savage, etc).
I remember about 9 years ago shooting some factory Partitions through a friends brothers Model 700 in 7mm Remington Magnum and having these 3/4" clusters print up on the target. His brother wouldn't sell the rifle, and I moved on not thinking about it except the odd time.
I have had to make a few sales I didn't want to in the past few weeks, but this made it worth it.

This rifle was apparently made in 1979, and is a designation "A" serial number. It is in great condition and the trigger cleaned up to a very crisp 2.5#.
I cannot wait to shoot it, as I have a long awaited Moose tag this year and intend to pile one up with this rifle.
The only complaint I have is this stock is silly dense and weighs 46oz.!
I have a feeling I will need a McMillan or a Wildcat soon as all up this rig is kinda beastly at 9lbs 8oz. About 1lb 8oz more than I want it to weigh.
Here are the bullets in line up to possibly become moose slayers:

Hornady Interlock 139gr, Barnes 140gr TTSX, Hornady 154gr Interbond, Hornady 175gr Interlock, and the Barnes 195gr Original.
It ain't a Weatherby, but its a Classic.:D

Nice rifle... if only it was an 8mm Remington Magnum:D

Funny, I never really appreciated the Remington BDL untill I started noticing less and less of them. My buddy had the same gun in the same chambering and did it ever shoot. He sold it for next to nothing to buy something shiny and new...... has regretted it ever since.

FWIW that gun shot Hornady 162's into a cloverleaf.

A smaller scope, LW mounts and loose the sling would drop quite a bit of weight off it.

An older purple 4x Leupold would be perfect "classic" match.

I would untrade or unbuy a 6x36 of the older persuasion from someone. ;)
The rings and base weigh 6oz. Talleys would make that 2oz. A smaller scope would help me loose another 4-6oz.
I am thinking about a Wildcat lightweight and a 1/2" Pachmyer. And keep the old stock around for playin dress up:)

Have you looked at Stocky's down in the states? They have a pretty good deal going on right now on Bell & Carlson Alaskan Ti stocks - drop in for only US$205. Those are listed as 25-30 oz. That is a 1lb to 1lb 5oz drop right there.

I'd keep the gun as period original as possible. There's lots of blinged up 700s out there in McMillans and B&Cs.

Fixed power Leupold in Weaver rings and bases for sighting. As for the stock, I'd look into taking weight from the original stock. Hollow the butt and forend will help a lot.

I agree, the whole appeal to that gun is the fact that it is original and in nice shape.

If you're intent on turning it from "classic" to "class-less" save yourself a few steps and just buy a 700 SPS

I was thinking that way, but my arms are kinda primal, and 13 1/2" doesn't suit me. I am thinking Wildcat.

I would hate to do that to the stock. I'll play dress up instead and have two stocks. One for carrying and one for looking.

You want a purple 6X36 do's ya?

I briefly had a 70's ADL 7RM that shot like this with Core-Lokts, fed smooth as butter...very well made gun...even for the "bargain bin ADL" model. Paid 349$ for it from Epp's.
