I just bought my daugther a new rem. 700 police 223 1/9 twist and a 26" barell with leupold rings and base with a falcon scope 4.5 -18x56, I was wondering what would be the best bullet, bullet weight and powder to shoot long range (900 yards).

Yup, like cday said, 69grn SMK's, AMAX's, 70grn Berger VLD's. There are also many powders that will work well with these including Varget, benchmark, 4895, H335, VV540 etc.. Alot of these combinations will work equally well but there will be a couple that may stand out more than the others, It mostly depends on what is available to you right now and try it out. Have fun and post up some pics, I like those R700P's.

I have the same rifle, my son shoots...

77gn SMK, 24gn Varget, Lapua brass, CCIBR4 primer, and COL 2.36. MVEL 2850fps

This was the heaviest bullet I could get to stabalize reliably in this rifle and it shoots at 800 yards quite well, I do not see why it would not shoot to 900 as well.

The SMK is relatively short for this wt, and as such it can be stabilized in a 1:9 twist rifle, I get 100 yard groups of 0.3-.05 inches all the time.

H335- 21.1 gr pushing 68gr Hornady HPBT's worked fantastic in an AR with a Shilen 1-9.
69 gr Sierra's should be good. My last AR was a 1-8 and loved the 77 gr sierra's , Your 1-9 might be ok with these.
Jr's load won't help you his .223 is a 1-14 and likes 52 gr Hornady's.

Mike.

Sorry for the double thread I'm still getting used to this computer thing.
I'm picking up some 75gr A-max tomorrow that I'll use with varget, I'll let you know how my girl does and get pictures up next week.
