Thanks to a member here, I finally acquired my first real center fire varmint rifle! I've been wacking 'yotes with my 19R17 BSEV all summer, and needed to get something that would reach out a lot further.... I found the perfect candidate here in the EE, and it was fairly local!

I picked up a Weatherby Vanguard Varmint special in .223, with a boyds thumbhole stock. Very nice! I also got 200+ handloads meant for the rifle to start with. I just topped it with a Viper Vortex 6.5-20x44PA to go out and test it, (in about 1/2 hr!).... I pulled the scope off my .17....

I'm not sure what to do now, should I shop for a decent replacement for the .17, or but a killer, kick @ss scope for the .223, and put the Viper back on where she started.... ? ;-) Decisions, Decisions.....

Im looking at a leatherwood M-1200 ART scope, something Millet, or Leupopld, but im open to options. I need to win the lottery!

heres some pics!

Congrats on the new rifle! I don't like huge scopes, and the nicest scope I own is a Viper HS 4-16x44 with the BDC reticle. It's on my varmint rifle, also a .223, and I honestly think it's all you need (magnification-wise) for a varmint hunting. I love the reticle, and the scope, and the size is all it needs to be. In my application, I need to cover allot of distance in a day, so long/heavy scopes are a pain. Literally. I don't even like the length a sunshade adds, so I even avoid using them.

My rig..
