I just got this rifle after a tip from member Wrong Way- thanks guy!
It looks to me like an early (3 digit serial number) civilian pattern EAL that someone filed off the rear sight ears on, then installed a dovetail rear sight in the knox form. I had harboured a little hope that it was a military pattern EAL but upon seeing it in person saw it was not so.
The apparently aftermarket wood is beautiful...near flawless. Bolt head is LB 0 and headspace passes easily to SAAMI Field. Bluing has partially faded to grey. There is no CA stamp on the barrel knox but there is a proof mark on the right side of it.
As Rob said, a bubbad Bubba, but what I paid reflected what I got and it's a nice little Canadian rifle!
Here's my 2 EAL rifles.
