Ok guys, dont laugh, just got a new pellet rifle for small game and pest control. I cant own any of my own rifles right now so this is the best ive got! the gun is shooting a hair under 500fps with 16gr .22 pellets. Yes, way less energy than its powder burning brothers but believe it or not this rig is capable of taking game the size of rabbit to 50 yards. Thats about as far as i will push it.. i plan to get out and take squirrel, rabbit and some upland game birds when they are in season. I have been taking out pest birds such as english sparrows and starlings for the time being. I get about 600+ shots from the 9oz tank and 1000+ from the 20oz.. its awesome.. about 1-4cents/round depending on the pellet.

Here she is..

w/ 9oz tank

w/ 20oz tank + remote (just bought today on sale at paint ball shop)

and sighting in at 25 yards.. this rifle produces 1/4" groups with ease at that distance.
(yes the pool was infested with algae that day, haha)

I am making a new stock for the rifle.. maple/mahogany laminate.. its turning out nice so far.

Have a good one.

That's quite a cool rig! What did it set you back? I used to hunt small game all the time with an old Crosman .22 pellet gun, and it worked fine. Air guns are pretty underrated for small game overall I think.

Neat gun, I have been shooting squirils, crows, starlings with a russian break action in .177, not sure about velocity as I don't have a chrono, but am looking for something with a lil more power for my 'yard' shooting....

What brand and what did that run you?

Yea.. im not 18 yet.. two more years!

The rifle cost $139.99 and it is a QB79, i am currently building a maple and mahogany laminate target stock for it, its turning out nice so far. Um.. the tank and remote line is just paint ball stuff, i got the 20oz tank on sale for $25 (usually $44) and the remote on sale for $40 (usually $69)

If you are planning to use a non PAL air rifle its best to go .22 for more fpe. The rifle is a real sweet shooter! Solid metal etc. Its not very loud either, however if you modify the valve for more CO2 capacity yielding fps in the range of 700-800 fps with CO2 the rifle will be fairly loud but not quite as loud as a .22lr.

I am pretty sure that if it goes past 500 fps you need a PAL... but meh what do I know:p Allan I gotta take you to shoot some real guns with my dad sometime:) Are you hunting without a hunting lisence? Where do you hunt? Because my dad and I can't find anywhere to hunt around here lol o well...that is a sweet rig though

I have a half a dozen pellet rifles that I just can't seem to get rid of. I have a couple that have been shot so many times the springs have eventually exploded. Sometimes there's an itch that only a couple hours of plinking with a pellet gun can remedy. They're great trainers for those times you just want to practice sight alignment and trigger control, and they're wonderful tools for youngsters.

I've got one scoped .177 that shoots 1250fps, and is one of my favorite small game rifles. I can turn a rabbit into a furry brick at 75m with nary a sound. And I've dropped coons with one shot out of trees that were dead before they hit the moss..

Air rifles are a blast, and most importantly they give you the skills to shoot confidently when you're ready for something with a bang. ...and you never outgrow them.
