my new gem for the collection, 1899 LEC mk1

I cleaned up the bore, it has nice rifling. Is this safe to shoot with modern 303 ammo or should I reload lighter pressure ammo?

Historically, many Lee Enfield (and even Lee metford) action bodies were used in conversions to No. 1 specs and used right through Mk VII ammo issue times. To me , if anything, they look a little beefier than the No. 1. I plan to use published "starting loads" in my Long Lee and Carbine but I would think commercial ammo would be OK. Edit- Fantastic rifle, by the way.

I just put 40 or 50 rounds of 1940's and 1950's Mk 7 through mine and no problems. Recoil was relatively mild and the action worked like a dream.

Very happy with the rifle.

Nice carbine, but the sling swivels have to go, both front and back. The 'sling' is a '37 pattern web shoulder strap or 'brace'.
