My neighbor has a fair amount of antiques; some have been stored in his basement for a few years. He was moving some stuff around the other day and gave me this.

You can see stamped on the underside:

CSW Mk I 1942

How much is missing? Canadian? He thought it came from a local vet.

It looks Canadian to me. I believe GSW stands for General Steel Ware - a Canadian company that made a lot of these helmets during the War. You are missing pretty well all of the internal bits - the basket and the chin strap. I have no idea whether there are any spare parts available or not.

Adrian,

Your helmet shell was made by G.S.W. there were only 3 manufactures of the mkII helmet in Canada.

You have what I would say are the hard bits to find, the liner securing bolt and the crown pad. I have NOS Canadian liners dated 1942 if your looking.

G.S.W. --- General Steel Wares (Canadian helmet manufacturer)

C.L./C. --- Canadian Lamp Company of Windsor ON (Canadian helmet manufacturer)

A.G./C. --- Aluminum Goods Company (Canadian helmet manufacturer)

VMC ------- Viceroy Manufacturing (Canadian maker of helmet liners)

Cheers

Nice helmet. I really like the Canadian lids. Here is one of mone in an original, complete state, for comparison. 1942 dated. Thanks for showing us :)
